After last year's inaugural Miami Grand Prix, which takes place on streets around the city's Hard Rock Stadium, F1 is to return to Florida for the fifth round of the 2023 season on May 7. According to Miami news outlet Local 10 , downpours have continued across South Florida for three consecutive days, with heavy rains leaving downtown streets impassable and drivers stranded. Local 10 added that city, county and state workers were stepping up efforts to alleviate flooding, and that drivers were largely able to pass through the affected areas without issues on Monday and Tuesday. Each Formula 1 Grand Prix in the United States will find their "distinctiveness" over time, according to Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei with three races in 2023. Under the ownership of Liberty Media, F1 has experienced a boom in popularity in the US - a market the series has long craved a foothold in, with the Miami Grand Prix joining the calendar in 2022 to supplement the official United States Grand Prix in Austin. For 2023, another race will be held in America as F1 returns to Las Vegas for a Saturday night primetime race on the strip. Several Formula 1 drivers have criticised the decision to shorten the Drag Reduction System (DRS) zones for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix amid overtaking problems in recent events. Drivers formed a fairly uniform stance against the latest modifications to DRS zones, with two of the three activation zones in Miami now being shortened compared to last year's event. Carlos Sainz says Ferrari picked the optimal strategy for the Miami Grand Prix, even though the Scuderia failed to challenge at the front. On a difficult day that laid bare the distance between Ferrari and the leading Red Bulls, Sainz started third on the grid but slipped to fifth by the flag, with teammate Charles Leclerc finishing two places further back in seventh.
