F1 to trial DRS usage changes in 2023 sprint races
Formula 1 is open to the possibility of revamping how DRS works during Grands Prix - with trial s set to take place in the 2023 sprint races .
The proposal from the meeting of the F1 Commission in Abu Dhabi has proposed activation of DRS to be brought forward one lap upon the start and restart of races from the current period of two laps.
It is hoped by the Commission - attended by the likes of FIA President Mohammed ben Sulayem and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali - that this change will "keep the field closer and encourage closer racing." Trial during sprint races Should the plan be adopted, it will not feature in Grand Prix racing before the 2024 season.
At the six sprint races planned for the 2023 season, activation of the DRS will be trailed one lap earlier with the results evaluated before a final decision for '24 is made.
