Schumacher open to F1 reserve role after 'disappointing' Haas exit

Image
Mick Schumacher has suggested that he would be open to taking a reserve role in Formula 1 next year, following his exit from the Haas team. The 23-year-old will not be retained at the American team for next season, having been replaced by Nico Hulkenberg. Schumacher had struggled to match teammate Kevin Magnussen's form in 2022, with the Dane drafted back in as a last-minute replacement for Nikita Mazepin at the start of the season. When asked for his reaction to the news, Schumacher believed that he had improved over the year, and suggested that he should have been afforded more time after a "tough" 2021 debut season. "Obviously, it's disap point ing in some ways because I feel like I've been doing a good job up to this point ," Schumacher told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "On the other hand, the team decided to go that way, so I have to respect that. I'm focused on the future. "We've had our ups and downs for ...

Perez felt Verstappen was hindrance at crucial point in Abu Dhabi

Image
Sergio Perez believes that Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen 's pace in the middle stint of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was a key reason why he lost out to Charles Leclerc. Perez was locked on points with Leclerc in the fight for P2 in the standings, with whoever finished ahead set to claim the runner-up spot. After the initial round of pit-stops, Perez was tucked up behind Verstappen thanks to the powerful undercut, sitting about two seconds behind. He radioed into the team to ask them to tell the Dutchman to speed up, seeing as he was to employ a two-stop strategy. In the end, clever Ferrari strategy dummied Perez into stopping early and ultimately falling 1.3 seconds short of Leclerc in a chase to the line as the Monegasque took P2 in both the race and season. However, Perez felt that not being able to deploy his full pace in the middle stint behind Verstappen was crucial. Perez'...

Marko points to Perez 'mistake' after Red Bull lose out on 1-2

Image
Helmut Marko believes that a key " mistake " cost Sergio Perez time after the Mexican lost out on P2 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Perez had gone into the race on level points with Charles Leclerc as the pair battled for second place in the World Championship behind Max Verstappen. While Leclerc opted for a one-stop strategy in the Grand Prix, Perez went for a two-stop and made his second visit to the pits relatively early. The Red Bull driver cut into Leclerc's lead over him in the latter stages of the race, but ultimately was unable to reach the Monegasque who claimed P2, while the win went to Verstappen. Perez ended the day in third, meaning that the Milton Keynes-based squad missed out on clinching their first ever 1-2 in the Drivers' Championship. Marko not losing sleep over Perez missing out on P2 Despite the team failing to secure what would have been a debut ...

Leclerc pinpoints three elements to Ferrari's 2022 title failure

Image
Charles Leclerc says tyre management, strategy and reliability are the three key elements to Ferrari's failure to challenge for the 2022 F1 Drivers' and Constructors' titles. After Leclerc won two of the season's first three races and established a 34- point lead at the top of the Drivers' standings, hopes were high that Ferrari could win an F1 championship title for the first time since 2008. However, a combination of factors helped Red Bull and Max Verstappen ease ahead of Leclerc and Ferrari over the course of the season, and the Monegasque noted that the Scuderia would have to improve on three key areas in 2023. Red Bull pinpoints 2022 moment that took Ferrari's 'breathing space'

Image
Christian Horner believes Red Bull's Formula 1 domination of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend was a key turning point against rivals Ferrari . The Italian squad - of whom Mattia Binotto will step down as Team Principal at the end of 2022 - started the season with the fastest car as Red Bull battled reliability concerns. World Champion Max Verstappen retired in Bahrain and Australia as Ferrari's Charles Leclerc claimed 71 out of 78 points across the first three rounds - compared to Verstappen's haul of 25. However, at Imola Ferrari endured a tricky weekend: Carlos Sainz was punted off at Turn 1 and Leclerc threw a podium away with a late spin in a fastest lap attempt. It was this weekend which Horner specifically picked out as taking away Ferrari's "breathing space" in the title battle. Viewed by others: ...

Capito Exclusive: This year we earned points on merit, not luck

Image
Williams have been in the Formula 1 doldrums for a number of years - ever since their 2018 challenger proved off the pace before the relative disaster of '19 fed into their first-ever pointless campaign in '20. While on-track performance nose-dived, changes were afoot off-track. Sir Frank Williams elected to sell his eponymous team in the summer of 2020, having realised American venture capitalists Dorilton Capital were in a far better place to restore this great team to something mirroring respectability. But times remained hard throughout 2021 - with the passing of Williams aged 79 - but there were also signs of a recovery. Then driver George Russell was a Q2 regular and sometimes Q3 troubler as the team began to modernise and adapt 'the Williams way' to the demands of modern Grand Prix racing. The team had finished eighth in the 2021 standings with 23 points - helped via Russell's stunning P2 in the abandoned Belgian GP after an impressive qualifying...

Albon pinpoints F1 tracks that 'suit' Williams after early-season promise

Image
Alex Albon has targeted the circuit characteristics that will suit Williams in their quest for F1 point s this season . The Grove-based outfit has made an impressive start to the new campaign as it fights back from a lacklustre effort last year, with Albon securing a point in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. Despite signs of pace in Saudi Arabia and Australia, the Thai-British driver has failed to add to his tally whilst rookie teammate Logan Sargeant has struggled to pair promising pace with consistency. Albon was running well at Albert Park having qualified in the top 10, only to crash out early in the race in an accident Team Principal James Vowles explained was triggered by a chain reaction of events. Addressing the strong pace shown by the Williams FW45 across the opening three events of the year, Albon pointed to specific conditions that suited his machinery. Viewed by others: ...

Horner: F1 not far from 'breaking point' with 'brutal' travel schedule

Image
With the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the Chinese GP earlier this year, the 2023 Formula 1 calendar is reduced down to 22 races. There was originally meant to be a record-breaking number of races, with 24 being perceived as the 'maximum' amount of events that could take place. This is due to the additions of the Las Vegas and Miami Grands Prix within the last two seasons, owing to the popularity of F1 in the United States. Christian Horner , who became Team Principal for Red Bull in 2005 when there were just 19 races on the calendar, thinks that Formula 1 is already at a " breaking point " and has branded the current mileage covered in a season by the teams as "insane." "You do reach a point where you wonder where you get saturation, and 23 races is an insane amount of racing and mileage that we have to cover in a season," he said at the Financial Times: Future of the Car conference. "I think it's bett...

How Mercedes suffered more issues after first 'high' point of 2022

Image
Mercedes have explained how they encountered further issues with their car after their first "high" point of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix. The team had a difficult start to the 2022 campaign, having experienced problems such as porpoising with their W13 which left them unable to match the pace of rivals Red Bull and Ferrari. However, there looked to be signs of progress at the sixth race of the year in Barcelona, where George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished P3 and P5 respectively. This step forwards did not seem to last long, though, as the event was followed by more challenging weekends such as in Monaco and Azerbaijan. Mike Elliott, Technical Director at Mercedes , has detailed the issues that the Silver Arrows faced after Spain in a year review video released by the team. Mercedes suffered after 'high' of Barcelona "Because we sort of go...
