Max Verstappen has explained why Red Bull did not make a call for him to drop back in order to help Sergio Perez close in on Charles Leclerc in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Perez was chasing down Leclerc in the latter stages of the race as they battled for P2 – both in terms of race position and in the World Championship – while Verstappen held the lead up ahead. Despite getting the gap down to less than two seconds, Perez ultimately failed to catch Leclerc and had to settle for P3. When asked after the race if there had ever been a call for him to drop back to try to hold up Leclerc and thus help Perez to make a move, Verstappen admitted that this had not been a consideration. George Russell has explained how he deals with the "ruthless" nature of social media in the public eye. The Mercedes driver admits that there are various mental health challenges posed by being an F1 driver, but finds the perceptions that people share online to be particularly difficult. "[This job] absolutely challenges your mental health so much," Russell told The High Performance Podcast . "You've got to be so resilient to the negativity in this world, whether it's the public perception, whether it's social media , whether it's the pressures of the team or even the pressures of yourself. "But I think the biggest one, probably, for me, is that public perception and social media side, which is a tough one, and I think that's also relatable to people who aren't in the spotlight, because social media is a pretty ruthless platform." ...

Wolff explains reasons behind Mercedes leaving FE

Image
Toto Wolff has revealed that Mercedes pulled out of Formula E due to low TV viewership numbers. The team competed in the all-electric championship for three years, two of which were championship-winning with Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne. At the end of this year they pulled out, instead selling the team to McLaren. Speaking about why they chose to exit in an interview with Swiatscigow , Wolff said F1 has become so popular that it has "dwarfed" other championships. "I think that F1 has become so big that everything else has been dwarfed. We were really happy, successful in DTM for over 30 years," he said. "But it has come to a point where the works team, if you wanted to compete, you need 40 or 50 million euros and the return on investment was too small for that." Viewed by others: ...
