How Gasly protected his mental health after 'difficult' year

Image
Pierre Gasly admits that he prefers not to look back at any missed chances for points in 2022 in order to protect his mental Health . It was a difficult season for Gasly and the AlphaTauri team, with the Red Bull sister team slipping from P6 in the 2021 Constructors' Championship to P9 in 2022. Gasly also went from ninth in the Drivers' standings in the previous year to 14th in the latter campaign. As well as struggling to regularly finish within the points, the Frenchman incurred several penalties and as such will enter 2023 – where he will make his debut for Alpine – with 10 penalty points. This puts him increasingly at risk of a race ban, given that a driver is handed this punishment should they reach 12 penalty points within a 12-month period. Despite the ups and downs during the year, Gasly does not want to spend too much time ruing missed opportunities. Viewed by

Wolff surprised by Brazil victory emotion after 'being used to winning'

Image
Toto Wolff has detailed the differing emotion s when comparing George Russell 's Brazilian GP win to the victories of their dominant seasons. Following a difficult start to the campaign, Mercedes were threatening to complete an entire F1 season without victory, until Russell's remarkable win at Interlagos prevented a first winless season since 2011. Speaking in the Mercedes Season Debrief , Mercedes boss Wolff believed that their Sprint and Grand Prix victories in Sao Paulo validated the car concept and proved more pace could be extracted from it. "I think it is, in a way, the perfect storm [of things going wrong], because what I said is within four months, you're not taking a stupid pills and suddenly becoming totally incom Pet ent when you won a championship in December, and then you hit the ground in March, and the car is much slower," said Wolff. "We were able to get it much better in Austin, Mexico was a was a positive surprise, and then B

Ralf Schumacher tips Mick for future Hamilton replacement at Mercedes

Image
Ralf Schumacher believes there could be a future in store for nephew Mick Schumacher , after the German signed on as their reserve driver for 2023. Mick was replace d at Haas by fellow compatriot Nico Hulkenberg at the end of the season, owing to inconsistencies with his performance as the team break into the midfield. The move to Mercedes as a reserve was seen as a stop-gap, as he potentially eyes a return to the grid with Audi or another midfield team in the future. But Ralf believes there could be an opportunity for him at Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton's contract expiring at the end of 2023. "It's a great opportunity for Mick. He can look over the shoulder of a top team at work and learn a lot," Ralf said in an interview Sport1.de . "And he's not just a development driver, where he can certainly help Mercedes return to the top in the simulator; as a reserve driver, he has to replace a regular driver in case he drops out. We've had this s

Brown details when he expects F1 cost cap to impact grid order

Image
The introduction of the cost cap to Formula 1 was seen as a positive step towards making it more equitable to compete for teams. Formula 1 has had a long-held desire to address the increasing costs associated with the sport, following the collapse of three new teams that joined the grid in 2010. While the new era in F1 has seen a similar order with Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes occupying the top three, McLaren Chief Executive Officer Zak Brown believes the cost cap will gradually come into effect to enable more midfield teams to challenge for championships. "I think [we will see the gap close] probably another two years. Even though we're all kind of on the same money now in terms of spend," he said in an interview with McLaren. "Some teams have bigger infrastructures, we're still waiting for our wind tunnel which will be done here shortly and new simulation. "So even though everyone's kind of on an equal playing field, or most teams fr

Horner, Vettel, lambs, and the 'Donkey from Shrek'

Image
Red Bull boss Christian Horner has revealed how a motorist nearly crashed in disbelief at Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel herding the "Donkey from Shrek." Vettel called time on one of the most successful Grand Prix careers at the end of the 2022 season, ending with 53 race wins and four World Championships to his name following a 16-year stint in F1 . The German achieved 38 of those wins and all his titles at Horner's Red Bull squad between 2010-2013, before departing for Ferrari in time for the '15 campaign. Horner - who believes Vettel could become a driver manager in the future if he so wishes - paid tribute to his former charge, sharing an amusing anecdote about an incident away from the race-track involving a shocked road user and a donkey. © XPBimages

Classic video: Ricciardo and Verstappen face chaotic Christmas challenge

Ahead of Daniel Ricciardo 's return to Red Bull as a reserve driver in 2023, now seems like a good time to relive one of his amusing off-track moments with Max Verstappen during his previous tenure with the team. Ricciardo and Verstappen made for an entertaining line-up at the squad between 2016 and 2018, having often taken part in various challenges together. One of these was a festive Game in 2016, a year in which Red Bull achieved a swift 1.92 second pit-stop. The drivers were challenged to throw as many snowballs at each other as possible in that same time frame, with one arm behind their backs and without moving their feet. All while dressed as Santa and an elf too! Who won? Watch the classic video below to find out...

Sainz Snr: Audi showing intent with key signing

Image
The Team Principal silly season may have come as a slight shock to some, as many members of senior management within teams made significant moves. One of those was the departure of Andreas Seidl from McLaren to Sauber, the former Porsche LMP1 boss seemingly going back to his former employees as they look towards their future with Audi in 2026. The plan for Seidl was to always see off his contract at McLaren, according to Brown, but now his departure to Sauber as Chief Executive Officer shows "how serious" Audi are taking F1, according to Carlos Sainz Senior. " Andreas Seidl was recently brought in as McLaren's Business manager," he said in an interview with Speedweek . "That shows me how seriously Audi is approaching the subject of Formula 1 . Seidl is a guarantee for serious work and success, he triumphed with Porsche at Le Mans, and he brought McLaren up to speed." In the period since Seidl took over in 2019, McLaren have achieved eig

Red Bull wants to see these changes to the F1 budget cap

Image
The introduction of F1's new era in 2022 was met with an early verdict - these new cars are brilliant. After com Pet itive races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, it looked as if there would be another close title featuring Max Verstappen and with new protagonist Charles Leclerc. As the races went by it was clear that Red Bull had the advantage, but it didn't stop Ferrari from still challenging for podiums and race wins. Speaking exclusively to TheFOXposts.Com , Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner, sheds some light on the current state of F1 following the first season with the new cars and effect of the cost cap - which took years to introduce. Horner was diplomatic when asked about whether the FIA, motorsport's governing body, could take F1 to the next level in years to come under the Presidency of Mohammed Ben Sulayem. "The FIA has obviously been going through significant change , either its new stewardship or its leadership, and all aspects of the Bus

Exclusive: Horner on the 'inevitability' of the 2022 regulation changes

Image
Christian Horner believes that Formula 1 fans will be treated to a tighter battle for the championships in 2023, following Red Bull's unprecedented dominance. Following one of the biggest regulation overhauls in Formula 1 history, the Red Bull team fought against Ferrari's early pace and their own reliability issues to emerge as the dominant force of the 2022 season. In winning the development race against Ferrari, the RB18 was driven to 17 Grand Prix victories in the hands of championship winning Max Verstappen and teammate Sergio Perez. However, any major shake up of the grid order, to the scale of what was witnessed after the 2009 season regulation change s, did not materialise, with the top three teams consisting of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes. Such was the performance of these teams, there was only one podium finish for the remaining seven teams: McLaren's Lando Norris at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Speaking in an exclusive interview with TheFOXp
