Brundle: Verstappen's team order snub another 'boomerang' attack

Image
Martin Brundle believes that Max Verstappen has gained little from his public refusal to obey team orders at the Brazilian Grand Prix. In the closing stages of the Interlagos race, Verstappen, who had recovered from an earlier clash with Lewis Hamilton, set his sights on challenging Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc ahead, who were running fifth and fourth. With the Dutchman unable to make further progress, he was instructed to concede his sixth place to Sergio Perez, who was running behind, to aid his teammate's battle for P2 in the Drivers' Championship. Verstappen refused the order , and made a public outburst on team radio that he was to never be asked to let Perez by again, adding "I gave my reasons", suggesting a long-standing cause for the refusal. Brundle: It's curious that Hamilton escaped Abu Dhabi penalty

Martin Brundle believes that it is "curious" that Lewis Hamilton managed to escape a penalty during the opening laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver was battling with Carlos Sainz during the opening laps of the race, when he had to take the escape road at Turn 6 and bounce over the sausage kerbs. "Sainz was correctly exonerated after being investigated for forcing Hamilton off, who was then asked to hand the place back to Sainz which he duly did before quickly re-passing him," explained Brundle in his column for Sky Sports . "Then It was announced by race control that there would be no further action for gaining an advantage off track and curious ly Hamilton was exonerated too." V...

Brundle: I thought I'd got Stewart thrown out in Miami!

Martin Brundle says he feared he got Sir Jackie Stewart " thrown out" after a Miami Grand Prix Formula 1 grid walk incident with Roger Federer. Pre-race in Florida, Brundle was conducting his grid walk and made his way to the front of the grid, encountering three-time World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, while also attempting to get the attention of tennis icon Federer. Stewart ducked under the security rope and was man-handled by security, which prompted criticism on social media that Stewart – a winner of 27 Grands Prix – was not recognised, while celebrities such as Federer were welcomed into the VIP area before the driver introductions, held by LL Cool J. And Brundle, who has been doing the grid walks since 1997, says he feared Stewart would be thrown out over the incident. Viewed by others: Lewis Hamilton Ham...
