Max Verstappen topped the free practice session ahead of qualifying for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Charles Leclerc. The reigning World Champion's lap of 1:42.315 was fractionally faster than the Ferrari driver's, with Sergio Perez just over one tenth off the pace in the second Red Bull. Carlos Sainz was fourth fastest in the other Ferrari, with Lando Norris putting his McLaren in P5, ahead of a surprise Nyck de Vries. The Aston Martin duo of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finished seventh and eighth. The vitality important sole practice session of the weekend was interrupted by red flags, which were brought out for the dual stoppages of Pierre Gasly and Kevin Magnussen. George Russell topped the opening free practice session for the Miami Grand Prix, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari 's Charles Leclerc . Reigning World Champion Max Verstappen finished over four tenths of a second behind the Mercedes driver, who had a change of steering column in his W14 car and missed much of the session. It is advantage Max Verstappen heading into Monaco Grand Prix Qualifying as he set the pace in the third and final Formula 1 practice session. A 1:12.776 was good enough for the World Champion to cement top spot heading into Saturday afternoon's session, as he led a Red Bull one-two. Sergio Perez was just 0.073s behind with Lance Stroll an encouraging third for Aston Martin as Fernando Alonso could not get a clean lap owing to traffic and a late VSC for the stopped Kevin Magnussen. The session was red-flagged in the closing minutes after Lewis Hamilton crashed at Portier, and although the front-left of the Mercedes needs to be replaced, he escaped further damage.
