McLaren predict year they will be fighting for championship

Image
McLaren CEO Zak Brown believes there is no reason why the squad cannot fight for the Formula 1 World Championship in 2026. Much time has passed since the Woking-based team were last in an F1 title battle, with their most recent Constructors' Championship victory happening in 1998. Their last win came via Daniel Ricciardo's P1 at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, which marked their first victory since 2012. The team have faced some difficult times in the past decade, but Brown feels that McLaren are putting the right components in place for a return to success. McLaren putting team in place "If I look at the things that we need to get back to the front, you need two great drivers – I think we have those," Brown told the F1 Nation podcast. "You need your Technology , infrastructure, being state of the art and on par with the com Pet ition – we'll have that done by the end of the year. "We've talked a lot about the wind tunn

2023 F1 Monaco Grand Prix – Free Practice 3 results

It is advantage Max Verstappen heading into Monaco Grand Prix Qualifying as he set the pace in the third and final Formula 1 practice session. A 1:12.776 was good enough for the World Champion to cement top spot heading into Saturday afternoon's session, as he led a Red Bull one-two. Sergio Perez was just 0.073s behind with Lance Stroll an encouraging third for Aston Martin as Fernando Alonso could not get a clean lap owing to traffic and a late VSC for the stopped Kevin Magnussen. The session was red-flagged in the closing minutes after Lewis Hamilton crashed at Portier, and although the front-left of the Mercedes needs to be replaced, he escaped further damage. Alfa Romeo to join Haas in 2024 F1 title deal

Image
Alfa Romeo are set to join Haas in a Formula 1 title deal from the 2024 season, potentially worth $20 million per annum, RacingNews365 has learnt. At the end of 2023, the Alfa title sponsorship of the Sauber team will conclude, with the Swiss name returning to the grid as they prepare for Audi's arrival in '26. However, Alfa are keen to remain involved in Grand Prix racing, and have held positive talks with Guenther Steiner's Haas outfit - whose current title sponsor Moneygram features similar colours to the Italian brand. Both teams are currently customers of Ferrari and receive components including power units from the Maranello team. RacingNews365 understands that discussions between the two parties were planned for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix but that they were instead held in Monaco after the Imola event was cancelled. Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the negotiations did not deny the rumours of potentially a two-year deal also taking in 20

Verstappen backs Mercedes decision over Monaco upgrades

Image
Max Verstappen has backed the decision of Mercedes to introduce their huge Formula 1 upgrade package at the Monaco Grand Prix instead of waiting until Spain. The much vaunted upgrade s of the W14 finally broke cover in Monte Carlo on Thursday as Mercedes unveiled the package that was intended to debut at the cancelled Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Instead of waiting until a traditional circuit in Barcelona next weekend, Mercedes have opted to put the revised sidepods and front suspension on the W14 for the race in Monaco to gain as much data as possible before heading to Spain. It is a decision Verstappen has fully backed as Mercedes hope the package will get them into a position to reel Red Bull in. Verstappen backs Mercedes "I would always put it on the car as soon as possible rather than leaving it in the garage," Verstappen told media, including TheFOXposts.Com , in Monaco. What Honda's new engine deal means for Verstappen

Image
Honda have officially announced that they will be back in Formula 1 in 2026 as engine supplier to Aston Martin. The Japanese manufacturer will be joining forces with Aston, who are set to ditch Mercedes units after a long association stretching back to the early Force India days, with Honda being enticed back to Grand Prix racing yet again. They originally joined in 2015 with McLaren before that troubled relationship was ended and a deal with Red Bull (with Toro Rosso to start with in 2018) was struck. Honda power would propel Max Verstappen to the 2021 title, but the decision to withdraw had already been taken as efforts on the electric vehicle division was prioritised. They are assisting Red Bull Powertrains – with that agreement set to remain in place until the end of the 2025 season – when Ford will come in and partner the Milton Keynes squad. Viewed by others:

Former F1 team boss on Alonso's biggest regret

Image
When he eventually calls time on his Formula 1 career, there will be one question on everyone's mind about Fernando Alonso : Could he have won more than two world titles? TheFOXposts.Com has previously looked at all the failed career moves in Alonso's career that ultimately contributed to his lack of championships, including the ill-fated attempts to revive the Honda glory years with McLaren and his efforts to bring regular titles back to Ferrari. Only recently has everything come together for Alonso following his two-year sabbatical, which saw him return to Alpine and then subsequently leave for Aston Martin due to the contract situation at the French team. The move to Aston Martin turned out to be one of the better ones in his career, as the Spaniard is back achieving regular podiums - something he hasn't done since prior to the hybrid F1 era. Bottas takes two-wheeled adventure in Imola replacement race

Image
Valtteri Bottas joined partner Tiffany Cromwell at a cycling race in Scotland after the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The race at Imola was called off early in the week after extensive rainfall led to flooding and landslides in the surrounding region. Alfa Romeo driver Bottas did not take the weekend off for relaxation ahead of the Monaco and Spanish Grands Prix double-header though, instead taking part in the Gralloch Gravel event – part of the UCI Gravel World Series. The Finn excelled to finish 114th out of over 1,000 entrants in the 113km race, though he was outshone by Cromwell, who triumphed in the Women's race. McLaren CEO makes Haas demand for new F1 teams

Image
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has called upon prospective new teams to follow Haas' example in establishing themselves in F1. The FIA opened the entry process earlier this year with five teams understood to be up for consideration, with a maximum of two likely to be added to the 10 incumbents depending on the quality of applications received. Andretti's entry bid alongside General Motors brand Cadillac has been by far the most vocal effort since underlining its intentions 12 months ago and has faced scrutiny and opposition from those already on the grid in the time since. Teams are concerned over the loss of value should a new team join the grid, especially given the demise of numerous start-ups since the turn of the century. This includes dismantling the motorhomes and equipment that had been setup in the days prior to the weekend, including for both the Formula 1 and support race paddocks. Drone shots taken on the Wednesday hours after F1 announced the cancellation of the race show the extent of the floods that hit the track, largely affecting the TV compound and support paddock area. Russell rates Mercedes' chances after Imola upgrade

George Russell has played down speculation that Mercedes ' planned upgrades for the next Grand Prix will transform the team's fortunes. The Silver Arrows are currently locked in a battle with Aston Martin and Ferrari to be F1's second-fastest team, with Red Bull proving the class of the field at the front. After five races of 2023, Mercedes are third in the Constructors' Championship with 96 points, six shy of Aston Martin, with the Silver Arrows having scored just one podium finish in the first five races, as Lewis Hamilton finished second in Australia. Mercedes ' update package for next weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix includes new suspension and bodywork elements. However, Team Principal Toto Wolff tempered expectations of the new parts providing a dramatic upturn in form, and Russell echoed his boss's words. The hidden message sent by Perez to Verstappen in Miami battle

Image
Max Verstappen underlined his intentions to secure a third F1 World Championship with a scintillating performance at the Miami Grand Prix. The Dutchman fought back from ninth on the grid to take victory over Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez to dent the Mexican's optimism of a title challenge, following his Sprint-and-Grand-Prix double in Azerbaijan a week previous. Whilst the style in which Verstappen emerged with the win in the United States perhaps signals that there will be no championship battle between the two Red Bulls, Perez left an important marker during the race to prove he will not roll over for the 38-time race winner.
