Sebastian Vettel has revealed how a voice was "creeping up" on him telling him to announce his retirement from racing in Formula 1. Four-time World Champion Vettel is set for his 299th and final Grand Prix start at the 2022 season-finale in Abu Dhabi - having raced full-time since 2008. The German is set to bow out as the the fourth most successful driver of all-time after a two year stint at Aston Martin after leaving Ferrari in 2020. However, 35-year-old Vettel has revealed how retirement thoughts first hit him during the aftermath of his departure from Maranello. Alonso provides more clues on F1 retirement thoughts

Fernando Alonso says he plans to be in Formula 1 for 'a few more years', adding that he had originally expected to be retired from the sport more than a decade ago. Alonso moved from Alpine to Aston Martin for 2023, signing what the Silverstone-based team have described as a "multi-year deal". The 41-year-old began his F1 career back in 2001, winning Championship titles in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, and currently holds the sport's record for most Grand Prix appearances, having been entered in 361 races as of this year's Australian Grand Prix. Alonso has shown good form since arriving at Aston Martin , with three consecutive third-place finishes helping his team vault up to second in the Constructors' Championship behind the dominant Red Bulls. Helmut Marko has confirmed that Adrian Newey has extended his contract at Red Bull, with the Austrian expecting the Chief Technical Officer to remain with the squad until he retire s. It was reported following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that Newey had signed an agreement to continue in his role. While the news was not officially confirmed by the team, a Red Bull spokesperson told TheFOXposts.Com : "We do not discuss individual contracts. However, you can rest assured that Adrian Newey will be with the team for a considerable amount of time going forward." Marko has now given confirmation of the contract extension, with Newey set to continue with the outfit that he joined back in 2006.
