Alonso's heart is in 'racing' after Alpine-Ocon breakdown

Fernando Alonso says "my heart is in racing " after a frosty Brazilian Grand Prix weekend with Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon. After qualifying fifth and sixth for the Sprint race at Interlagos, Ocon squeezed Alonso at Turn 4 on the opening lap, before the two made contact later on the first lap while climbing the hill from Turn 12. This broke Alonso's front wing and effectively ended his Sprint, with the stewards handing him a grid drop and penalty points having deemed him to be at fault. Alonso - who slammed Ocon before the penalty was handed out - thus dropped to 17th on the grid but recovered expertly to snatch a fifth-place finish - just behind Charles Leclerc and 9.561s off race winner George Russell. Despite having had more amicable relations with Ocon on Sunday - including being waved through to attack on the Safety Car restart - Alonso was keen to move on ahead of his 2023 Aston Martin switch. Why Verstappen says some drivers should stop racing

Image
Max Verstappen believes that drivers who aren't prepared for the intensity of modern Formula 1 should stop racing. The F1 calendar has steadily grown over the past 20 years, from 16 Grands Prix in 2003 to a record 24 scheduled for next year. Though doubts over the viability of the Chinese Grand Prix may mean the 2023 calendar runs instead to 23 races, this would still be the longest F1 season ever, and Verstappen said those unprepared for the intensity should leave the sport. "If you're not prepared, then it's better to stop already, right?" Verstappen told The Guardian . "I think we're all racers and we love racing ." After emerging triumphant in 2021 following a season-long championship battle with Lewis Hamilton that went down to the last lap of the final race, Verstappen successfully defended his title this year, winning the 2022 crown with four races to spare. Discussing the tension of the 2021 title race, Verstappen said he wouldn...

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem hopes that women's racing series will act as a short-term solution to bridge the gap to greater equality. Meanwhile, Formula 1 announced the formation of the F1 Academy series in November. Beginning next year, the goal of the category is to develop young female drivers in order to prepare them for competing in higher levels of motorsport. With a focus on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion having formed part of his manifesto, Ben Sulayem would like to see all-female categories pave the way for women to climb the ranks. Max Verstappen left his Team Redline sim racing teammates laughing after a pre-race blunder caught on a live stream on Wednesday. The two-time F1 World Champion and current Championship leader has been vocal in his support for sim racing in recent years and often streams with Team Redline, including in more serious, official endurance races such as the Le Mans 24 Hours Virtual and the Virtual 12 Hours of Sebring. Whilst issues in both events have left Verstappen irate in the past 12 months, the Dutchman's latest misfortune left teammates Enzo Bonito and Gianni Vecchio laughing as he unplugged his monitor just moments before the beginning of a race. Can you spot the F1 -related 'furniture' Verstappen has to navigate to solve the issue? Check out the video below!
