Why F1 boss says Red Bull’s dominance won’t last

Image
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali says he doubts that Red Bull and Max Verstappen will be able to continue dominating F1 as convincingly as they did in 2022. Despite 2022 being the first year of a new set of technical regulations designed to produce closer racing, Verstappen wrapped up the Drivers' Championship title with four races to spare, and also set a new record for the number of wins and points in a single season, taking 15 victories on his way to racking up 454 points. Helped by Verstappen's dominance , Red Bull also scooped their first Constructors' Championship since 2013. Domenicali noted that the team's supremacy was partly due to a lack of effective opposition over the course of the year, including a downturn in performance from the previously dominant Mercedes team. "The season was decided quickly, for two reasons. Max Verstappen and Red Bull combined are the first reason. After a difficult start - don't forget that Max said h...

The factors set to put Red Bull's dominance to the test

Image
Damon Hill believes that Red Bull's level of dominance will be put to the test in upcoming races, with a key factor being the impact of the cost cap. The team have appeared to hold a significant edge over their rivals so far in 2023, having amassed 123 points at the top of the Constructors' Championship while nearest rivals Aston Martin sit on 65. Max Verstappen claimed victories in Bahrain and Australia, putting him in the lead of the Drivers' Championship, and teammate Sergio Perez took the win in Saudi Arabia. The likes of George Russell have suggested that Red Bull are still masking their true pace – an idea that Verstappen and Christian Horner have dismissed – but Hill thinks that the team's standing will become clearer in the races ahead. Bahrain main indicator? Following Verstappen's latest win at the Australian Grand Prix, Hill questioned whether Red Bull's particularly dominant display in Bahrain was the biggest indicator yet...

Steiner: F1 should not sacrifice Red Bull dominance for show

Image
Guenther Steiner thinks Formula 1 should not sacrifice Red Bull's dominance to pander to the "show" element of motorsport. The Milton Keynes squad have won the first three races of the 2023 season and blitzed the field, with many comparing their current form to Mercedes in 2014. F1 brought in new regulations in 2022 designed to close the field up and, while the gaps are closer in the midfield, Red Bull have extended their advantage from last season, during which they won 15 races. Steiner thinks the "show" aspect of F1 will "sort itself out" in the long-term, which is why those in charge should not react in a way that reduces their performance. "The sport is the main thing we have to have," he told Autosport . "The show is secondary, but I think it will sort itself out and then still we have got a good race going on in the front row with Checo [Sergio Perez] and Max [Verstappen], that doesn't seem to be without spa...

Villeneuve denies Red Bull dominance after Mercedes era: Why are we complaining?

Image
Jacques Villeneuve believes that Red Bull's curent level of dominance does not match that of Mercedes in the past. The Milton Keynes-based squad have won every race so far in the 2023 F1 season, following on from claiming all but five victories in their championship-winning 2022 campaign. However, Villeneuve believes that the team's dominant performance is not on the level of others before them. Villeneuve: Red Bull cannot afford to make a mistake "It's not as big as the Mercedes domination that used to be, so why are we complaining about it?" Villeneuve said in an exclusive interview with TheFOXposts.Com . "It's not massive. They didn't get pole [at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix]. They're just working better. "When you had the Mercedes domination, they could make mistakes and still win easily. Red Bull cannot afford to make a mistake. They win because they're better, the car's a little bit better. ...
