Image
Williams have signed 19 year-old and Formula 3 race winner , Franco Colapinto, to their driver academy. The Argentine driver joins the Williams Racing Driver Academy following an impressive rookie season in F3 with Van Amersfoort. He claimed a maiden victory in the championship at the Imola round, along with podiums at Austria, Hungary and the Netherlands. This was followed by a win in the sprint race at Monza. “It’s a real honour to join Williams Racing as an Academy Driver,” he said. “They are one of the most successful teams in Formula 1 history and I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of my fellow countryman Carlos Reutemann. "It’s an incredible opportunity for which I am forever grateful. Thanks to everyone at Williams for putting their trust in me.“ Viewed by others:

WATCH: De Vries pushed to the limit ahead of first full F1 season

Nyck de Vries has been working hard to get himself into shape ahead of what will be the longest Formula 1 season in History . The Dutchman was pushed to the limit by his performance coach, Pyry Salmela, who worked with him on various exercises and training regimes to get fit for the new season . Salmela, who works with other drivers on the grid including Pierre Gasly, is a former ice hockey player. TheFOXposts.Com previously spoke to him about the demands on F1 drivers. De Vries will be racing with AlphaTauri in 2023, following his impressive debut at the Italian Grand Prix last year when he achieved points. Check out the video below. Exclusive: How Haas and Ferrari operate from the same F1 facilities

Image
In the world of Formula 1 before the cost cap was introduced, front-running teams like Mercedes and Red Bull were spending hundreds of millions of dollars a year to put two race cars out 22 or so times a year. Every year. And with no guarantee of how exactly that endeavour would play out come the end of the season once the prize money was dished out, it was unsustainable, with no new teams entering since the Class of 2010 - all three of whom had disappeared by 2017. Except one: Haas. But owner Gene Haas and boss Guenther Steiner were not about to be reckless and try to match the budgets of the behemoths. Instead, some savvy reading of the rulebook led to an all-new way of going Grand Prix racing. Instead of designing and building every aspect of their car themselves, Haas would buy as many non-listed parts, now known as Transferable Components, from Ferrari as possible: think suspension, gearbox, rear crash structure and other internal parts. The team would be required t

Brown: No F1 promises made to Palou and O'Ward

Image
McLaren boss Zak Brown says he has made "no promises" to IndyCar stars Alex Palou and Pato O'Ward as they prepare for Formula 1 reserve duties. After a protracted saga in the summer of 2022, a deal was agreed so that Chip Ganassi driver Palou - the 2021 IndyCar champion - would be the official reserve driver for McLaren with O'Ward in a testing role. This is because as a champion, Palou has earned enough superlicence points while O'Ward - who actually races for McLaren in IndyCar - is still lacking the points he requires to obtain the document. Brown is confident that his driver will secure the necessary points in the upcoming season to qualify, but is firm that neither Palou or O'Ward have received any promises from him regarding an F1 future. Ferrari look to fill sponsorship gap with new team partner

Image
Ferrari have confirmed that a new team partner will be added to their portfolio, with Genesys being added to their F1 and hypercar programmes. As RacingNews365 confirmed earlier in January, Ferrari had ended their partnerships with two major sponsors; Snapdragon and Velas. As major sponsors of Ferrari, the loss was expected to leave an estimated $55m void in their list of partners. With the Italian team looking to fill the gaps, 'customer experience' Business Genesys has been announced, and Ferrari confirmed that their logo will feature on their F1 2023 cars. Ferrari will present its 2023 challenger on Valentine's Day on February 14th, but a location has not yet been revealed. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will make up the Scuderia’s driver pairing for the third year in a row, and incoming Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur joins from Sauber (Alfa Romeo) as replacement after Mattia Binotto resigned from the team at the end of December 2022.

Sebastian Vettel's previous supercar now on sale

Image
A limited edition Nissan formerly owned by Sebastian Vettel has been listed for sale at €250,000. The listing says the Nissan R35 GT-R Black Edition was registered in Switzerland and is in new car condition, with only 130km having been covered. Vettel took delivery of the car in 2012 during his third straight World Championship-winning season with Red Bull, who were sponsored by Nissan's flagship Infiniti brand that year. In recent years, Vettel has become an increasingly vocal advocate for sustainability and environmental issues, and last year questioned whether he should continue to race in F1 amid his concerns. Perhaps mindful of the environmental impact of high-performance supercars, the German appears to have downsized his car collection in recent years, and in 2021 put no fewer than ten of his Ferraris and four Mercedes up for sale.

Williams confirm ex-Mercedes man as new F1 team principal

Image
Williams have confirmed that James Vowles will take over the position of Team Principal from the 2023 season onwards. As one of the key members of the Brackley-based team, Vowles was part of the team's transition from British American Racing through to Honda, Brawn GP and finally Mercedes. The Briton was an integral part of Brawn GP's remarkable title-winning season of 2009, as well as the Mercedes dominance in the turbo-hybrid era. Vowles will officially join Williams in his new role on 20th February, ending a stint at the Brackley team that exceeded 20 years. The news comes around one month after the team confirmed the departure of both Team Principal and CEO Jost Capito and Technical Director Francois-Xavier Demaison. RacingNews365 understands that Capito's contract was due to expire in March, but the team's owners wanting to address the potential leadership switch ahead of time. The appointment of the new Technical Director, following the exit of

De Vries on Verstappen history: He is like my older brother

Image
Incoming AlphaTauri driver Nyck de Vries has provided an insight into the dynamic between himself and reigning World Champion Max Verstappen. After a successful audition at the 2022 Italian GP, De Vries secured his first full-time F1 race seat with AlphaTauri, and will drive alongside Yuki Tsunoda this season. The Dutchman was previously unaffiliated with the Red Bull junior team, having previously been Mercedes test and reserve driver. His points-scoring debut at Monza was enough for compatriot Verstappen, among others, to publicly back De Vries for a 2023 seat. The 2023 season will be the first time two Dutchmen have competed on the same F1 grid since 2006, when Robert Doornbos raced for Red Bull and Christijan Albers drove for Midland. Video: Frijns breaks wrist in Formula E collision

Dutch driver Robin Frijns appears likely to require surgery after fracturing his wrist in the 2023 Formula E season opener in Mexico City. Moving from Envision to the returning Abt team for this season, Frijns started Saturday's race down in 19th as his team lacked pace. As the field jostled for position on Lap 1, Frijns was hit from behind by Sam Bird, which forced the Dutchman into the back of Norman Nato. Onboard footage of the crash shows Frijns' steering wheel being violently wrenched from his grasp as his front wheel made contact with Nato's Nissan. A statement by Frijns' team initially said that the Dutchman would require surgery in Mexico City, though this was later changed to read that Frijns was instead merely being examined at a local hospital. The key area Vowles needs to focus on at Williams

Image
F1 Chief Technical Officer Pat Symonds has outlined that key areas that newly appointed Williams Team Principal James Vowles needs to focus on. Prior to taking up his role at Formula 1 , Symonds was the Williams team's Chief Technical Officer, coming in at the start of the hybrid era in 2014 until 2016. During that period the squad achieved 14 podiums, as well as one pole at the 2014 Austrian Grand Prix. Symonds drew on that period when asked about what Vowles needs to focus on to turn the team around from their recent decline. "Strategy, and when I say strategy, I don't mean race strategy. Because when people rule by race strategy, which everyone knows James for, it's much more about tactics," he told TheFOXposts.Com . "What he needs to do is have a look at what's there and what needs doing. I went there in 2013 and did that job, and I turned it from a team that's finishing ninth to a team that's finishing third. "I think Jam

Wolff could not stop Vowles 'reaching for the stars'

Image
Toto Wolff says he could not stop James Vowles "reaching out for the stars" following the latter's appointment as Williams Formula 1 Team Principal. It was announced on 13 January that former Mercedes strategy chief Vowles had been appointed as Williams boss, effective 20 February to replace Jost Capito who resigned in December. Vowles had spent over 20 years at Brackley through their guises as Honda, Brawn and latterly Mercedes , being a part of 17 world titles and over 120 Grand Prix victories. He had stepped up to be the de facto leader of Mercedes at races Wolff had skipped, such as Brazil in 2022, and Wolff believes it would not have been right for him to stand in Vowles' way in taking his new role. Fallows: Aston Martin challenge 'harder' than expected

Image
Aston Martin 's Dan Fallows says the Formula 1 challenge he took on was " harder " than he expected , but has praised the team the experience they have. Fallows took control of the technical department in spring 2022 after leaving Red Bull, with the 2023 car set to be the first designed and built entirely under his leadership. During his time at Red Bull, Fallows was a lieutenant of Adrian Newey and became a part of the success the team enjoyed with Sebastian Vettel at the beginning of the 2010s. His appointment at Aston Martin comes as owner Lawrence Stroll embarks on a project to try and turn the Silverstone-based outfit into front-runners and ultimately championship contenders. They finished seventh in the 2022 standings following a significant upturn in performance later in the season and only missed out on sixth place on count back to Alfa Romeo, who had the highest finishing position in a Grand Prix (fifth at Imola compared to Aston's sixth.) Wolff does not rule out Vowles return as Mercedes boss

Image
Toto Wolff has not ruled out the possibility of James Vowles potentially returning to Mercedes as Formula 1 Team Principal in the future. Vowles was announced last week that he was moving on from his duties at Mercedes as strategy chief to replace Jost Capito as Team Principal at Williams, who resigned in December. At Mercedes, Vowles was a trusted Wolff lieutenant who had been interested in potentially becoming a team boss in his own right. However, with Wolff firmly in place at the Brackley squad, this could not happen at Mercedes , with Vowles set to lead Williams through their latest rebuilding period. When presented with the idea that Vowles was being 'placed' at Williams to prepare him for a future Mercedes role - in a similar way to George Russell - it is something Wolff did not confirm, but also did not fully rule out as an option. Brown sets timeline for when McLaren have 'no excuses'

Image
Zak Brown believes that McLaren can have "no excuses" once their big Formula 1 infrastructure projects are completed. The Woking-based squad are currently upgrading their wind-tunnel and simulator as they seek a return to regularly contending for wins and titles after just one victory in 10 years and no championships since 2008. Former team principal Andreas Seidl highlighted the need to upgrade the wind-tunnel at the McLaren Technology Centre shortly after taking over in 2019 as the out-dated facility had led to the team using the Toyota tunnel in Cologne. Having restructured McLaren from their nadir of 2015-2018, Brown feels the team will soon be in a position to deliver at the front - and expects success. Viewed by others: Toto Wolff

How McLaren benefit from racing in multiple series

Image
Zak Brown has explained how he feels McLaren benefit from com Pet ing in multiple categories of motorsport. As well as having raced in Formula 1 since 1966, the team have branched out into other series over the years and now take part in five championships in total. The McLaren name is seen in F1, IndyCar, Extreme E, Esports and Formula E, a category that the squad made their debut in at the 2022/23 season-opening Mexico City E-Prix. Brown believes that pursuing various series has been a positive for the company, though admits that the main focus when he arrived in 2016 was to move the Formula 1 team forwards. "There's a variety of benefits," Brown said in a McLaren interview when asked about the outfit contesting multiple championships. "The first remit was to get the Formula 1 team back on track, and we've had our first win in almost a decade and poles and podiums. "We're definitely not where we want to be, but I would say we're
