Aston Martin praise 'typical Alonso' reaction to Australian GP chaos

Image
Mike Krack believes that Fernando Alonso delivered a ' typical ' reaction to the red flags after the Lap 57 restart at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. Following the red flags for Kevin Magnussen's crash, the chaotic race restart resulted in several cars being eliminated, and Alonso being taken out of the top three by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz. With the red flags waving, the 41-year-old immediately saw an opportunity to regain the position, and radioed to the team to suggest reinstating the previous grid order for the final lap. The two-time World Champion was quick to cite the 2022 British Grand Prix which, after the red flags for the dramatic crash for Zhou Guanyu, was restarted with the same grid order as the original start. Aston Martin Team Principal Krack was unsurprised by Alonso quick-wittedness: "That's typical. He remembers every race that he has done and what happened and what we should look at. It's pretty impressive! "I...

Why Brown found reaction to Ricciardo's McLaren exit 'frustrating'

Image
McLaren boss Zak Brown admits that it was "challenging" to be judged on the decision for the team to part ways with Daniel Ricciardo . Ricciardo had endured a difficult spell with the squad since joining in 2021, and it was confirmed over the summer of 2022 that both parties had mutually agreed to end their multi-year contract early. This left the Australian without a seat on the grid for 2023, with McLaren bringing in rookie Oscar Piastri as his replacement to join Lando Norris at the team. Brown says that Ricciardo's exit from the outfit was one aspect of what proved to be a challenging 12 months overall. "It's been a very tough year," Brown said in an interview for McLaren. "And it's personal, business is personal. Specifically Daniel, who's been tremendous to work with and gave us our first win [at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix]. "We had a lot of fun together, and we had a lot of frustration together that it didn't w...

Ben Sulayem expresses 'surprise' at Andretti reaction

Image
Mohammed Ben Sulayem says it is "surprising" that "thoroughbred racers" like Andretti have received an "adverse" reaction to their Formula 1 entry bid plans. On Thursday, Andretti announced their intention to apply for entry to Grand Prix racing, with the backing of General Motors and Cadillac after Ben Sulayem opened up an 'Expression of Interest' process earlier in the week. Andretti has long held ambitions to have an F1 team, but while Ben Sulayem's initial statement to the news was welcoming, the one from F1 itself was more cautious. Commenting about the reaction the bid has received on social media, Ben Sulayem added further support: "The FIA has accepted the entries of smaller, successful organisations in recent years [and] we should be encouraging prospective F1 entries from global manufacturers like [GM] and thoroughbred racers like Andretti and others. "Interest from teams in growth markets [such as the United...
