Why Ocon is confident Alpine can challenge top three teams

Image
Esteban Ocon is confident that Alpine can make the next step to challenge the top three F1 teams in the near future. After finishing fifth in the 2021 Constructors' Championship, the squad continued their progression in 2022 by beating McLaren to P4, having outscored them by 14 points. While he feels that there is still a gap to the teams ahead, Ocon believes that the result puts Alpine in a prime position to challenge the leading outfits on the grid. Ocon confident Alpine are on 'right path' "We should be the next one coming in that fight, because we are the fourth [placed team]," Ocon told media, including TheFOXposts.Com , over the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend. "We look to be in good shape at the moment and, hopefully, we're on the right path. "Hopefully we can continue our way of improving things, and that will be the breakthrough for next ...

F1 teams to receive extra allowance for 2023 Sprint races

Image
Sprint races are now firmly part of the Formula 1 calendar, with their inclusion set to expand further for the 2023 season. Six events are planned throughout the campaign, up from the three that have been held in both 2021 and 2022 as the new format is trialled. There were some disagreements earlier in the year about the doubling of the number of the Saturday events, but terms were finalised between F1 and the FIA. In the 2022 season, teams had an allowance of $150,000 USD per Sprint race to be deducted from the end of year costs, with a further $100,000 available for damage repair. Given the number of Sprint races in 2022, this figure is set to increase. Viewed by others: Daniel Ricciardo Why Ricciardo was 'glad' not to be offered a to...

F1 teams facing Imola rain without tyre warmers

F1 teams are facing the prospect of racing in the wet at this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix without tyre warmers . In a sustainability push, F1 's official tyre supplier Pirelli are introducing a new full Wet compound for the Imola race that is designed to avoid the use of electric tyre blankets. Torrential rain over the last few days has caused severe disruption in the Emilia Romagna region, with widespread flooding causing power outages and leading to road closures. Though the rain is said to ease up from Wednesday evening onwards, it is likely that the Grand Prix weekend will be run in wet conditions, which will test Pirelli's new compound to the limit. "Starting from this Grand Prix, a new compound of full Wet tyre will be introduced which will not require the use of tyre warmers beforehand," said Mario Isola, Pirelli's Motorsport Director. "Track tests have shown even better performance than the previous Cinturato Blue full we...

McLaren CEO makes Haas demand for new F1 teams

Image
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has called upon prospective new teams to follow Haas' example in establishing themselves in F1. The FIA opened the entry process earlier this year with five teams understood to be up for consideration, with a maximum of two likely to be added to the 10 incumbents depending on the quality of applications received. Andretti's entry bid alongside General Motors brand Cadillac has been by far the most vocal effort since underlining its intentions 12 months ago and has faced scrutiny and opposition from those already on the grid in the time since. Teams are concerned over the loss of value should a new team join the grid, especially given the demise of numerous start-ups since the turn of the century.
