Ex-McLaren racer doubtful over Ferrari Sainz appeal chances

Image
Former McLaren racer and now Aston Martin ambassador Pedro de la Rosa has cast doubt over whether Ferrari can successfully appeal Carlos Sainz 's Australian GP Formula 1 penalty. Sainz was handed the five-second sanction for clipping Fernando Alonso out at the Lap 57 restart in Melbourne, dropping him from fourth over the line to 12th and last as no green flag racing was possible after the third red flag. Ferrari requested a right of review, which was granted by the stewards, with the hearing taking place on Tuesday morning via video link. However, de la Rosa, who also drove for Arrows, Jaguar, Sauber and HRT, is not convinced that the punishment will be expunged from the record books. FRECA racer suffers spinal injuries in Imola sausage kerb accident

Irish FRECA driver Adam Fitzgerald has suffered spinal fractures after an incident at Imola over sausage kerbs. The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix venue this weekend, with Fitzgerald in his first season in the championship. He finished 22nd in the opening round but landed heavily after getting airborne over the sausage kerbs at Turn 1. A team spokesperson has confirmed he suffered three fractured vertebrae but luckily avoided any spinal cord injury. His Racing Performance Motorsport team posted on Instagram their disdain about the presence of the sausage kerbs, also responsible for launching F3 racer Alex Peroni at Monza in 2019.
