Coulthard: Anyone who claims Verstappen's success down to car 'an idiot'

One of the age-old questions in Formula 1 is how much of the effort is down to the car versus the driver? In the case of Max Verstappen , was it the success ful RB18 that enabled him to dominate the field in 2022? Former F1 driver David Coulthard believes it is down to the driver to execute the race wins. Verstappen ended the 2022 season with 15 race wins, the most on record for any driver in a single season. In an interview with Dutch Formula 1 Magazine, Coulthard stated that anyone who claims Verstappen's success is solely down to the car is "an idiot." "Just as Lewis doesn't need nine world titles for me to consider him one of the greatest drivers in the sport, Max doesn't need three to be considered one of the best," Coulthard explained. "Max is already one of the greats. You would also have to be a f**king idiot to say that he only achieved this because he was in a good car." ...

Horner rejects Russell's 'very generous' sandbagging claims

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has dismissed George Russell 's claims that Red Bull are masking their performance advantage in 2023. The drinks-backed squad have won all three races so far this year in comfortable fashion with an RB19 that appears to be the class of the field. But despite Red Bull's dominance, George Russell suggested that the team are masking their true pace to avoid the FIA introducing regulations that would disadvantage them, adding that drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez could probably go 0.7s per lap quicker if they chose to. Horner was quick to dispute Russell's claims, referencing Mercedes' own period of dominance that saw the Silver Arrows win all but one available title between 2014 and 2021. "That's very generous of him! His team would know too well about those kinds of advantages," Horner told media, including TheFOXposts.Com , when told of Russell's comments. "There's always an elem...

Former driver claims Red Bull showed potential F1 champion the door

Ex-Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari claims that Red Bull let potential World Champion Sebastien Buemi slip from their Formula 1 grasp. The two were teammates at what is now AlphaTauri from mid-2009 to the end of 2011, when both were dropped. Alguersuari had a brief stint in Formula E before leaving racing, while Buemi has become a FE and WEC champion, claiming four wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in addition to remaining as a Red Bull F1 reserve driver. However, Spaniard Alguersuari claims that Swiss racer Buemi is a lost F1 champion. Did Red Bull really escape a severe penalty as Ferrari claims?

In the search for a more exciting battle between the 10 Formula 1 teams, the financial regulations were created in 2021. The rules dictate that the teams are only allowed to spend a certain amount per year, with of course some exceptions. In 2021 that started at $145 million, followed by $140 million in 2022, and in 2023 that has decreased to $135 million, plus an increase of $1.2 million owing to additional races. The teams will submit their figures for each season at the start of the year for the previous season, after which the FIA will audit the teams accounts. In 2022 this came in October, when the results showed that Red Bull had went over the cost cap and committed a minor breach. A penalty followed: a seven million dollar fine and a 10% reduction in aero development time (wind tunnel and simulations) for one year. Both the former Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto and now his successor Fred Vasseur have reached the same verdict on Red Bull's punishment: That the ...
