Why Hamilton feels he is a 'target'

Lewis Hamilton says his previous successes have made him a ' target ', after he and Max Verstappen collided early in the Brazilian Grand Prix. The 2021 title protagonists have not duelled much on track this year, thanks largely to the disparity in competitiveness between Red Bull and Mercedes for much of 2022. However, the Silver Arrows found some considerable form during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, with George Russell leading Hamilton home at Interlagos for a 1-2 finish and Mercedes' first win of 2022. Hamilton might have been in a better position to challenge Russell for the lead had he not dropped to ninth after a coming together with Verstappen at the beginning of Lap 7. For his part, Verstappen had to pit for a new nose and was slapped with a five-second time penalty for his role in the collision, and Hamilton later added that his record-breaking stint in F1 had made him something of a target for Verstappen. "I'm not concerned," Hamil...

Alonso reveals target for final race with Alpine

Image
Fernando Alonso has revealed his main target for his final race with Alpine at Abu Dhabi. The team are fighting for P4 in the Constructors' Championship with McLaren, with just 19 points between them following a strong finish from Alpine in Brazil. Alonso anticipates that it will be difficult to repeat their performance at Sao Paulo, but hopes to finish on a high after suffering from poor reliability throughout the year. "I think it has been up and down a little bit for us in terms of performance, but also reliability has been our weakest point," Alonso told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "So, let's see if we can finish the season on a high and with a good result here. About how competitive we can be, I don't think that we can repeat the Brazil performance." Viewed by others: ...

Horner: Knives were out for 'targeted' Red Bull in 2022

Image
Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes his Formula 1 team had a "target on our backs" with "knives" sharpened following a controversial 2022 campaign. Horner's squad enjoyed unprecedented success on-track, claiming 17 wins from 22 races and wrapped up a first title 'double' since the 2013 season as the RB18 proved to be the class of the field. However, the on-track dominance was threatened to be overshadowed by the team breaching the cost cap limit of $145 million USD for the 2021 season. A deal was subsequently reached in which the team received a fine and deduction from their development allowance for 2023. During the time of negotiations between Red Bull and the FIA there were calls by some to strip Max Verstappen of his 2021 title due to the overspend, but this was not echoed by the likes of Toto Wolff at Mercedes or Mattia Binotto of Ferrari - Red Bull's main com Pet itors. Despite Red Bull's most successful season in their F...

Verstappen becoming a leader makes him 'a target', says F1 legend

Image
Damon Hill believes Max Verstappen will become "a target" in Formula 1 for 2023, after taking his second consecutive Drivers' Championship. The Dutchman set the record for the most wins in a season at 15 following his victory in Abu Dhabi, and has been the leader throughout the 2022 campaign in the dominant RB18. Hill says this constant success will bring out a "flip side" to how the com Pet ition reacts. "Not everybody loves a winner, their expression is or the idea is once you're leading, you're in a happy place," he said on the F1 Nation podcast. "But there's also this other thing, which is in this business, all these other teams want to bring you down. "So you become a target, and it can be sometimes baffling why people don't celebrate when you're doing really well, but there is that flip side to being successful." ...

F1 targeting streamlined race calendar to reduce travel

Image
Formula 1 is aiming to introduce a simplified calendar in the upcoming seasons, with the target of reducing travel-based emissions. As part of the target to achieve 'net zero' emissions by 2030, F1 is negotiating with promoters to adopt a "more regional approach" to the schedule. In recent seasons, those working in the sport have taken issue with the logistics of the increasing schedule, with some races in different continents being placed one week apart. The aim is to try and group races in similar locations, which is often the case with races based in Europe. F1 announced the target alongside a publication of several updates to their goals regarding sustainability and diversity and inclusion. Viewed by others: Pirelli Ferra...
