The former title sponsor of Williams , ROKiT, has been ordered by a US judge to pay more than £26 million to the Formula 1 team. ROKiT joined Williams as title sponsor ahead of the 2019 season and appeared on the cars of George Russell and Nicholas Latifi during pre-season testing in 2020. However, COVID-19 then hit, with the sponsor reneging on the deal and Williams not running the ROKiT livery once the season got underway in July 2020. This meant a planned three-year deal ended after only one, with ROKiT withholding scheduled money to the team. As a result, Williams took the case to court believing their contract had been breached. Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has arrived in court in London for the latest hearing ahead of his fraud criminal trial later this year. Ecclestone, 92, served as F1 CEO, stepping down when Liberty Media took control of the series in late 2016, being given the title 'chairman emeritus'. United Kingdom tax authorities His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have alleged that Ecclestone failed to declare more than $400 million held in a trust fund in Singapore. He faces one case of fraud by false representation between June 2013 and October 2016, and although he is yet to enter a plea, it is expected Ecclestone is to plead not guilty. He was joined at the pre- trial hearing at London's Southwark Crown Court by wife Fabiana, with the hearing being overseen by Mr Justice Bryan.
