Ferrari stopped 2022 development as it 'couldn't afford' upgrades

Image
Ferrari was forced into halting development on its 2022 Formula 1 car as it "couldn't afford" new upgrades, according to boss Mattia Binotto. The team started the season with the quickest package, but have fallen back from runaway leaders Red Bull after winning two of the opening three races. Since the Austrian Grand Prix in July, Ferrari have not won a race as a potential title challenge has morphed into a fight for second with Mercedes in the Constructors' Championship. However, while the eight-time champions have been developing their car to try and mask the problems with it, Binotto has revealed that the development tap was switched off as the budget cap struck. Sainz corrects 'completely fake' theory on Ferrari's 2022 development

Image
Carlos Sainz has stated that any theories linking his performance level with Ferrari 's develop ment of their 2022 F1 car are " completely fake". Sainz appeared to struggle to match the pace of teammate Charles Leclerc in the early stages of the season, where the Scuderia looked to have an edge over Red Bull. However, the Spaniard seemed to improve as the campaign progressed, and claimed his debut Formula 1 victory at the British Grand Prix. Sainz has dismissed the idea that the car's development direction was a factor in this, with his belief being that he was able to adapt his driving style more to the car. Sainz: Theory on development completely wrong "I've read this somewhere, where the car developed towards my style, and I think it's completely wrong," Sainz told media, including TheFOXposts.Com , after the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix....

Why McLaren's development is 18 months behind schedule

Image
McLaren Technical Director James Key says the pandemic has put his team 18 months behind their development curve. Key and Team Principal Andreas Seidl joined McLaren at the beginning of 2019 as the team embarked on a restructuring after an underwhelming few years that included an ill-fated engine partnership with Honda. McLaren's fortunes gradually improved from 2018 onwards, as the team's points tally increased year-on-year, ultimately scoring their first Grand Prix win since 2012 with Daniel Ricciardo's victory in the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. But the team slipped back in 2022, scoring only 159 points to 275 in 2021, and falling behind Alpine in the final Constructors' Championship, and Key lamented that the onset of the pandemic had affected McLaren 's development plans. The development Red Bull must find to give Verstappen 'free' lap time

Image
The RB18 is undoubtably one of the best chassis produced by Red Bull in Formula 1 , having taken 17 wins over the course of a 22-race season. It is a remarkable achievement after F1 radically changed its car design rules to make the racing closer for 2022, which in turn led to a lot of teams suffering from a porpoising and bouncing phenomenon at the start of the season. Red Bull appeared to be the only team without any proposing issues, but Max Verstappen reveals there were still some "unexpected" problems with the RB18 in an exclusive interview with TheFOXposts.Com . "We could more or less just focus on weight reduction and performance," he explains. "But that weight reduction was really unexpected, so while other teams were solving their porpoising we were solving our weight. "It's very expensive, which is a problem. With a budget cap, when you have already calculated certain upgrades and you suddenly have to shift it to weight reductio...

Ferrari F1 development driver Robert Shwartzman will make his debut with Chip Ganassi Racing in IndyCar at a test to evaluate their 2024 drivers. According to RACER , the team has confirmed that the 2019 Formula 3 champion and Formula 2 runner-up will test for Ganassi in January. The team has all of its 2023 driver options taken up, but 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou will take up an option to leave Ganassi at the end of next year.
