Full weekend schedule for the F1 2022 Abu Dhabi GP

Just days after racing in Brazil, F1 returns to action this weekend as the 2022 season concludes with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. While the 2021 event played host to the controversial title showdown between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, both championships have long been sealed by Verstappen and Red Bull ahead of this year's event. However, there is still plenty to play for. Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc are tied on points as they battle for P2 in the World Championship. Elsewhere, Mercedes have closed the gap to second-placed Ferrari in the Constructors' standings, with 19 points separating them. Can the Silver Arrows repeat their Brazilian Grand Prix success to take the spot? The weekend will follow the usual format, with two practice sessions taking place on Friday. FP1 is schedule d for 10:00 UK time, with FP2 following at 13:00. On Saturday, FP3 will be held at 10:30 UK time, ahead of qualifying at 14:00. This will determine the grid for Sunday...

Why McLaren's development is 18 months behind schedule

Image
McLaren Technical Director James Key says the pandemic has put his team 18 months behind their development curve. Key and Team Principal Andreas Seidl joined McLaren at the beginning of 2019 as the team embarked on a restructuring after an underwhelming few years that included an ill-fated engine partnership with Honda. McLaren's fortunes gradually improved from 2018 onwards, as the team's points tally increased year-on-year, ultimately scoring their first Grand Prix win since 2012 with Daniel Ricciardo's victory in the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. But the team slipped back in 2022, scoring only 159 points to 275 in 2021, and falling behind Alpine in the final Constructors' Championship, and Key lamented that the onset of the pandemic had affected McLaren 's development plans. Horner: F1 not far from 'breaking point' with 'brutal' travel schedule

Image
With the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the Chinese GP earlier this year, the 2023 Formula 1 calendar is reduced down to 22 races. There was originally meant to be a record-breaking number of races, with 24 being perceived as the 'maximum' amount of events that could take place. This is due to the additions of the Las Vegas and Miami Grands Prix within the last two seasons, owing to the popularity of F1 in the United States. Christian Horner , who became Team Principal for Red Bull in 2005 when there were just 19 races on the calendar, thinks that Formula 1 is already at a " breaking point " and has branded the current mileage covered in a season by the teams as "insane." "You do reach a point where you wonder where you get saturation, and 23 races is an insane amount of racing and mileage that we have to cover in a season," he said at the Financial Times: Future of the Car conference. "I think it's bett...
