Verstappen first driver to receive new FIA award

Max Verstappen has become the first driver to receive a new FIA award following his victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As well as receiving the traditional trophy, the winner of each F1 race will now be given a medal. Drivers' race-winning trophies are often housed in the teams' trophy cabinets, while the driver gets the chance to take home a replica. From now on, to ensure that driver s do not go home empty-handed after a victory, they will receive a medal to commemorate their achievement. As such, Verstappen was the first to be given the prize for his win at the Yas Marina Circuit. VIDEO: FIA reveal F1's nomination for 'action of the year' award

The FIA have decided which moment from the F1 season has been nominated for their 'action of the year' award. Ahead of the annual 2022 FIA Prize Giving ceremony, fans will have the chance to vote for their favourite piece of racing action from all of the FIA-affiliated series. The nomination from F1 has been selected, with the FIA choosing the Lap 45 battle between Charles Leclerc , Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton from the British Grand Prix. The contest featured side-by-side action, track limits controversies, and an advantageous double overtake from Hamilton. Fans will have the chance to vote for their favourite racing action - and win a paddock access for a Grand Prix - by following the link here. Magnussen claims prestigious award after F1 comeback

Haas Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen has won the prestigious Lorenzo Bandini Trophy for efforts in the 2022 season. Dane Magnussen left Haas at the end of 2020, and was replaced by Nikita Mazepin, but following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February and his close family links to President Vladimir Putin, Mazepin's contract was ripped up just before the new season. At short notice, Haas turned to Magnussen who returned and finished fifth in the season-opener in Bahrain, adding a further five points finishes across the campaign. He claimed a maiden Pole Position in the Brazilian Grand Prix - being officially credited with it during the Sprint weekend and starting eighth for the main Grand Prix. The Bandini Trophy is named after the former Ferrari driver Bandini who perished in an accident at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix after a crash.
