Magnussen claims prestigious award after F1 comeback

Haas Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen has won the prestigious Lorenzo Bandini Trophy for efforts in the 2022 season.

Dane Magnussen left Haas at the end of 2020, and was replaced by Nikita Mazepin, but following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February and his close family links to President Vladimir Putin, Mazepin's contract was ripped up just before the new season.

At short notice, Haas turned to Magnussen who returned and finished fifth in the season-opener in Bahrain, adding a further five points finishes across the campaign.

He claimed a maiden Pole Position in the Brazilian Grand Prix - being officially credited with it during the Sprint weekend and starting eighth for the main Grand Prix.

The Bandini Trophy is named after the former Ferrari driver Bandini who perished in an accident at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix after a crash.

Founded in 1992, the award honours the achievements of those in motorsport and Formula 1.

Previous winners include World Champions Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Max Verstappen and Nico Rosberg.

The likes of former Ferrari boss Luca Di Montezemolo and current racer Charles Leclerc have also picked the award up - Leclerc doing so in 2021 for his efforts in '19.

Bottas takes two-wheeled adventure in Imola replacement race

Valtteri Bottas joined partner Tiffany Cromwell at a cycling race in Scotland after the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The race at Imola was called off early in the week after extensive rainfall led to flooding and landslides in the surrounding region. Alfa Romeo driver Bottas did not take the weekend off for relaxation ahead of the Monaco and Spanish Grands Prix double-header though, instead taking part in the Gralloch Gravel event – part of the UCI Gravel World Series. The Finn excelled to finish 114th out of over 1,000 entrants in the 113km race, though he was outshone by Cromwell, who triumphed in the Women's race. F1 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Qualifying results

Charles Leclerc nabbed pole position for Formula 1 's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and will be joined on the front row by Max Verstappen. Having set the exact same time as Verstappen on the first runs in Q3, Leclerc improved by 0.242s on his second run, as Verstappen could only find 0.188s.
