Bottas proud after Alfa Romeo 'sacrifice' Abu Dhabi GP for championship

Valtteri Bottas has praised Alfa Romeo after the team sacrifice d their own results in Abu Dhabi to focus on preventing Aston Martin from beating them in the Constructors' Championship. With Alfa only four points ahead of Aston going into the weekend, the squad opted to try to make life difficult for their rivals at the Yas Marina Circuit in the hope of stopping them from scoring enough points to take P6 in the Constructors'. During the race, the team ensured that Zhou Guanyu undercut Sebastian Vettel at the pit-stops, while Bottas extended his stint on the Hard tyre to stay out on track before Lance Stroll made his second visit to the pits. While Zhou and Bottas ultimately finished outside of the points in P12 and P15 respectively, Stroll and Vettel's P8 and P10 result was not enough for Aston to overtake Alfa on points. Bottas reveals 'realistic' expectation for Alfa Romeo in 2023

Valtteri Bottas has set out his expectations for what Alfa Romeo can " realistic ally" achieve in 2023. The Finn completed his debut campaign with the team in 2022 following his switch from Mercedes and was left pleased with their P6 in the Constructors' Championship, a result they sealed at the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix thanks to their strategy. Whilst Alfa ended the year equal on 55 points with Aston Martin, the position of sixth went to Alfa due to Bottas' fifth place at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix having beaten any result for Aston in 2022. Valtteri Bottas hopes that Robert Kubica remains connected to the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team, with the Pole expected to depart at the end of the year. After losing his Williams race seat after the 2019 season, Kubica switched across to Alfa Romeo in a third/reserve driver role, bringing a title sponsorship with him. As part of this deal, he has driven in numerous FP1 sessions and other tests as well as subbing in for a COVID-stricken Kimi Raikkonen at the 2021 Dutch and Italian Grands Prix. Russell 'almost glad' Imola 2021 collision with Bottas happened

George Russell believes that he gained from his collision with Valtteri Bottas at the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, despite the initial repercussions. As a Mercedes -affiliated driver racing for Williams last season, Russell lost control of his car at a wet race in Imola, crashing into then- Mercedes driver Bottas and putting both out of the race. At the time, the incident was seen as a blow to Russell's hopes of a promotion to the Mercedes seat for 2022, before standout performances triggered a call-up for 2022. Speaking on the High Performance Podcast , Russell revealed that at the time of the incident he hadn't focused on the fact that he was racing against a Mercedes, and believed that he'd learned from his heated reaction to the crash. After the surprising move from McLaren's Andreas Seidl to move away from the team to take up a new role as CEO of Sauber, questions have arisen over the future plans of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. The appointment of Seidl is said to align with the strategic takeover of Sauber from Audi, with the brand set to enter as an engine manufacturer in 2026. Bottas has previously said he would like stick around for the evolution of the project, but Ralf Schumacher believes it might not as straightforward and that his time could be "counted" in the future. "I'm curious what ideas Andreas Seidl has with the drivers, there are also rumours," he told MotorsportTotal . Bottas' Australian GP helmet to be auctioned for charity

Valtteri Bottas ' specially-designed Australian Grand Prix Formula 1 helmet is to be auction ed off in support of Save the Children. The Alfa Romeo driver has teamed up with contemporary Aboriginal artist Ricky Kildea to create two helmets, paying tribute to the Indigenous communities of Australia, who are often disadvantaged. After the event at the Albert Park circuit, one of the helmets will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to two projects. The auction will last between 28 March and 11 April, taking place on F1 Authentics. The Mooroopna Kinder Project supports families to help them put children through kindergarten and early years schooling and those impacted by flooding in 2022. Save the Children will use proceeds from the auction for repairs and restoration of facilities. When Valtteri Bottas made the switch from World Championship-winning constructor Mercedes to Alfa Romeo last season, he would have been pleasantly surprised by the Hinwil-based outfit's start to the year. Valtteri Bottas admits that Alfa Romeo's "main focus " needs to be on making a step forwards after failing to score points at the Miami Grand Prix. After struggling in the midfield battle so far in 2023, the team looked to have had a more positive day during qualifying at the Miami International Autodrome, with Bottas reaching Q3 and starting from P10 on the grid. However, the Finn was unable to match this on race day and slipped out of a points-paying position, eventually ending the event in P13. Valtteri Bottas joined partner Tiffany Cromwell at a cycling race in Scotland after the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The race at Imola was called off early in the week after extensive rainfall led to flooding and landslides in the surrounding region. Alfa Romeo driver Bottas did not take the weekend off for relaxation ahead of the Monaco and Spanish Grands Prix double-header though, instead taking part in the Gralloch Gravel event – part of the UCI Gravel World Series. The Finn excelled to finish 114th out of over 1,000 entrants in the 113km race, though he was outshone by Cromwell, who triumphed in the Women's race.
