O'Ward reveals thoughts after nearly stopping metres into F1 debut

Pato O'Ward has revealed what was going through his head when it looked like a terminal issue might bring his debut FP1 appearance to an early end. The Mexican managed to get out of Turn 5 in the McLaren before slowing on the main back straight, with the team instructing him not to change out of second gear. O'Ward has recalled the moment it happened on his F1 weekend debut . "I was definitely like, 'Oh, I really hope it doesn't get cut short', you know?" he told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . Oscar Piastri admits that he felt a " noticeable difference " after getting behind the wheel of a 2022 F1 car for the first time at the Abu Dhabi post-season test. The Australian – who will make his debut on the grid in 2023 with McLaren – joined his new team for testing at the Yas Marina Circuit, marking his debut drive in the current year's machinery. Liam Lawson has won his first Super Formula victory on his debut in the championship. The New Zealand driver is part of the Red Bull Junior Team, and was the reserve driver for the Formula 1 outfit while racing in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. After qualifying third on the grid, Lawson managed to overtake Toshiba Oyu for second in the opening stages of the race. He later made use of an undercut pit strategy to overtake Tomoki Nojiri for the victory . He becomes the first Red Bull Junior Team driver to take victory in the Japanese championship since Pierre Gasly in 2017. F1 Academy cars hit track for first time ahead of debut season

F1 Academy cars have hit the track for the first time ahead of the category's debut season getting underway. The 15 drivers and five teams set to compete in Formula 1's all-female driver category – which aims to help in preparing young female drivers to progress through the ranks of motorsport – are taking part in a two-day test session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from 11-12 April. Footage released on social media shows the number 2 car of Campos Racing's Lola Lovinfosse leaving the pits to take to the circuit. Other clips have also been shared from behind the scenes, with former W Series driver Abbi Pulling seen getting behind the wheel of her Rodin Carlin machine. The test will offer the teams and drivers a final chance to prepare ahead of the inaugural F1 Academy season beginning its seven-round schedule in Spielberg, Austria on the weekend of 28-29 April. Ferrari development driver to make IndyCar debut

Ferrari F1 development driver Robert Shwartzman will make his debut with Chip Ganassi Racing in IndyCar at a test to evaluate their 2024 drivers. According to RACER , the team has confirmed that the 2019 Formula 3 champion and Formula 2 runner-up will test for Ganassi in January. The team has all of its 2023 driver options taken up, but 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou will take up an option to leave Ganassi at the end of next year. This came after a contract dispute over his services, which was resolved with a revised contract that enabled him to depart for Arrow McLaren SP for 2024.
