Wolff cools 'miracle' expectations: No Mercedes upgrades in coming races

Image
Toto Wolff has warned that Mercedes Formula 1 fans should not expect any ' miracle s' from their much-vaunted Imola upgrade package. Mercedes were forced into reinventing their W14 machine after realising their car concept was flawed, admitting in Bahrain that they had gone 'in the wrong direction'. An upgrade package is set for Imola, with Wolff suggesting that the teamed found chunks of time with it in simulations. And speaking after Australian Grand Prix practice, he gave an update on the new package, after drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell contradicted themselves. Wolff makes big promise: We will consistently bring upgrades

Image
Mercedes have promise d to be consistent ly bring ing upgrades over the "next few" Formula 1 races. Following their below-par start to the season - which prompted Team Principal Toto Wolff to promise a complete design revolution of their W14 car - Mercedes are playing catch-up to runaway championship leader Red Bull. A difficult Bahrain race was followed by gradual improvements in Saudi Arabia and Australia, which has offered hope that more pace can be extracted from the Mercedes car. The team now believes that there is a 'clear' design direction for the remainder of the season, which was thought to centre around a bigger upgrade package at the Emilia-Romagna GP, which takes place after the upcoming Azerbaijan and Miami Grands Prix. However, whilst Mercedes were still expected to bring new developments sooner than that to Baku, Wolff has now promised a consistent stream of upgrades in the 'next few races'. Viewed by others: ...

Wolff outlines main aims for Mercedes Imola upgrade

Image
Toto Wolff has outlined the main aims of Mercedes upgrade package that will come at the next race in Imola. It has been a troubled start to the 2023 season for the team with the W14, as the team has struggled with the setup of their car concept. For Imola the team will bring an update package that Wolff has already branded "large surgery" aimed at discovering why their car is "poisonous" when it comes to setup. The Mercedes team boss has shed more light on what that upgrade package will achieve for the team, as it looks to change its fortunes. "I think what we're trying to do with the upgrade is to create a new baseline for us to take question marks and variables out of the equation, and to say 'This is not a problem now that we have gone to a different spec' and that is, for example, front suspension," said Wolff to media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "We are also looking at bodywork solutions that are - let's say - more...

Mercedes confirm upgrade plan after Imola cancellation

Mercedes will introduce its long-awaited upgrade package at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Silver Arrows have pointed towards a radical and "visible" change to the W14 with the package originally intended for this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. But the Imola event was cancelled following intense rain and flooding in surrounding areas, with resources now focused towards the local recovery mission. This has left upgrade plans somewhat in the air with Monaco providing a unique challenge for teams and drivers, with its demand for maximum downforce not lending itself towards an event primed for the introduction of upgrade packages. It has been confirmed to TheFOXposts.Com that Mercedes will not delay the arrival of the changes until the Spanish Grand Prix, however, with the new-look W14 set to take to the streets of the Principality. The Brackley-based outfit has been forthright in its criticism of the car since the start of the season and will hope the upd...

Verstappen backs Mercedes decision over Monaco upgrades

Image
Max Verstappen has backed the decision of Mercedes to introduce their huge Formula 1 upgrade package at the Monaco Grand Prix instead of waiting until Spain. The much vaunted upgrade s of the W14 finally broke cover in Monte Carlo on Thursday as Mercedes unveiled the package that was intended to debut at the cancelled Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Instead of waiting until a traditional circuit in Barcelona next weekend, Mercedes have opted to put the revised sidepods and front suspension on the W14 for the race in Monaco to gain as much data as possible before heading to Spain. It is a decision Verstappen has fully backed as Mercedes hope the package will get them into a position to reel Red Bull in. Verstappen backs Mercedes "I would always put it on the car as soon as possible rather than leaving it in the garage," Verstappen told media, including TheFOXposts.Com , in Monaco. "It is really difficult to tell [what to expect from Mercedes ], I thi...

Hamilton just 'counting down the days' until Mercedes upgrade

Image
Lewis Hamilton admits that he is "counting down the days" until Mercedes bring their Formula 1 upgrade after a season-worst showing in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Hamilton qualified fifth and pitted early on to swap to Hard tyres, but lost out under the Safety Car when it was deployed for the stricken Nyck de Vries on the next lap. He rebounded to sixth, executing a move on teammate George Russell after the restart at Turn 1, but could not make further progress to pass the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. He finished 46.1s behind race-winner Sergio Perez and revealed post-race that he cannot wait for the much-vaunted upgrade s to come at Imola, after the next race in Miami.
