The Ferrari race sim offering clues to its Red Bull-beating potential

Image
It is why Ferrari duo Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc coming out on top of the overall timing sheets over the course of this week’s Bahrain test has barely registered in conversations. Sainz’s overall test-topping time of 1m29.921s, set on the second day, was around seven tenths faster than the Red Bull benchmark of 1m30.679s set by Sergio Perez on the same afternoon. Indeed, the consensus among the paddock is that Red Bull is clearly going into next weekend’s F1 season-opener as the team to beat. What is not so sure, though, is exactly how big its advantage is, because there is another Sainz element to the Bahrain test that has offered F1 plenty of food for thought about where the com Pe...

2022 Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich says he would be interested in racing hypercars or in Super Formula alongside his Aston Martin commitments in '23. As defending F2 champion, Brazilian racer Drugovich is banned from returning to the series, and with no Formula 1 race seats available, signed a reserve driver deal with Aston Martin to shadow Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. He made his F1 debut in FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and is set for further such outings in 2023, but is also searching for a race seat in another series. Aston Martin eye Monaco for potential win

Image
Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack has eyed the Monaco Grand Prix as a potential place where the team could win their first race. The squad came close to victories twice in 2021 at both the Azerbaijan and Hungarian Grands Prix, but ultimately had to settle for second on those occasions, though they were later disqualified in Hungary after the required fuel sample could not be extracted from the car following the race. With their exceptional start to 2023 – having taken three podiums at three different tracks – Krack has identified where the AMR23's main strengths could play into their hands later in the season. "I think there are some tracks where the combination of this driver with this car may still be more magical, Monaco, Barcelona..." he said to DAZN. "We have deficiencies on very long straights, it's no secret. We have seen it and we have to work on it a lot." Viewed by others: ...

Former driver claims Red Bull showed potential F1 champion the door

Image
Ex-Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari claims that Red Bull let potential World Champion Sebastien Buemi slip from their Formula 1 grasp. The two were teammates at what is now AlphaTauri from mid-2009 to the end of 2011, when both were dropped. Alguersuari had a brief stint in Formula E before leaving racing, while Buemi has become a FE and WEC champion, claiming four wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in addition to remaining as a Red Bull F1 reserve driver. However, Spaniard Alguersuari claims that Swiss racer Buemi is a lost F1 champion. Image
George Russell has given his reaction to Max Verstappen calling him a " potential World Champion". Verstappen recently spoke of how impressed he was by Russell during their early days of racing each other in karting, leading the Dutchman to suggest that Russell has the capability to claim a title in Formula 1. "George is part of the generation with Lando [Norris] and Charles [Leclerc] and me that grew up together," Verstappen told the Daily Mail . "I raced against George a bit in karting, though he's a year younger. You could see straight away he was good. "It came naturally to him – he didn't need a lot of laps to be quick. "He has the potential to be a World Champion." Russell: A handful of drivers are World Champion worthy Russell admits that he is flattered by the comments, but also feels that several drivers on the grid could be classed as possible World Champions of the future. "Obviously it...
