Should F1 free practice be reduced?

Image
Several F1 drivers have suggested that the amount of free practice time during a Grand Prix weekend could be reduced. In addition to Qualifying and the Grand Prix itself, a typical F1 race weekend also features three one-hour practice sessions, allowing drivers and teams to fine-tune their cars and run through different simulation programmes ahead of the competitive action. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali created a stir last month by suggesting that he would prefer to eliminate all free practice sessions from a Grand Prix. Though he later clarified his comments and ruled out scrapping free practice entirely, the Italian said it would be wrong not to consider ways of changing the race weekend format in order to continue to engage the sport's growing audience. Asked about possible alterations to the running order, several drivers told media, including TheFOXposts.Com , that the amount of practice time during a weekend could be reduced. Sargeant apologetic over unpenalised restart collision

Image
Logan Sargeant has issued an apology to Nyck de Vries over an incident that put them both out of the Australian Grand Prix. The collision occurred at the penultimate race restart on Lap 57, where several cars found themselves caught up in accidents, including Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso as well as the Alpine duo of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. Sargeant locked up as the race restart ed and made contact with de Vries, resulting in both cars retiring from the event. The Williams driver has explained what happened in the "strange" incident. Sargeant apologises to de Vries "It just felt like when I hit the brake nothing was up to temp[erature] – tyres, brakes," Sargeant told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "I just touched the brakes and locked both fronts immediately. Apologies to Nyck, I hate to end the day like that, but I have to look and see what happened. "It definitely felt strange because I felt like I had braked...

Sargeant apologetic to Williams after 'painful' mistake

Image
Logan Sargeant has expressed his apologies to Williams after a mistake in the early stages of the Miami Grand Prix led to a "painful" race. The American started his home event from the back of the grid and attempted a move on Lance Stroll during the opening lap, only to make contact with the Aston Martin. Damage sustained to his FW45 meant that Sargeant had to make a pit stop and he feels that the incident ultimately ruined the rest of his Grand Prix, which he went on to finish in last place. Sargeant: I put the car where I shouldn't have "I think the start itself was okay," Sargeant told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "I probably just put the car in a place I shouldn't have in that second sector and took my front wing off. That ruined the race from there." Despite this, Sargeant has taken a positive from his tyre management, having made a one-stop strategy work for the entirety of the race. "But I think, 54 laps...

Rookie Watch: Where the Class of 2023 need to improve

Image
One thing is for certain in the 2023 Formula 1 season, rookie of the year won't be as easy to decide as it was in 2022. Last term, only one driver in Zhou Guanyu made his Grand Prix bow, and has slowly gone onto establish himself as a fine midfield driver, often shading Valtteri Bottas - no mean feat seeing as this is the driver who, on his day, could beat Lewis Hamilton. This time around, we have three drivers on the grid starting out in F1 - all with wildly different tales to tell: one is the young prodigy who caused shockwaves before he even drove a race, another is carrying his nation's flag and the other is perhaps the most experienced rookie ever. So, let's get into it, and our ranking of the 2023 rookies begins with that prodigy. Viewed by others: F1 2023 Video: The enormous costs of hosting an F1 Gra...

Williams announce date for 2023 'season launch'

Williams will officially launch their 2023 Formula 1 season on February 6th - but have not given any indication as to when the new car will appear. The team are set to host a 'Season launch' event, becoming the earliest team to do thus far, with the 2023 livery being made public at the February 6th event. The car itself is expected to be unveiled at a later date. Incumbent driver Alex Albon is joined by rookie Logan Sargeant in the driver pairing - with Sargeant set to become the first full-time American driver since Scott Speed in 2006. Williams are also still searching for a new team principal and technical director following the resignations of Jost Capito and FX Demaison from their respective roles in December 2022.
