Hamilton loses pole record, blames 'track specific' issues with W13

Image
Lewis Hamilton blamed " track specific " issues with the W13 for the reason why he couldn't challenge for pole and maintain his career record in qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The seven-time World Champion had achieved a pole in every season he's participated in prior to the session, with this one being the last opportunity of 2022 to maintain that record . But after qualifying in fifth – nearly seven tenths off the pace – Hamilton blamed the issues with the W13, including porpoising, for why the team are so far off despite leading the way in practice on Friday. "[I] definitely wasn't expecting to see such a big gap, but we're losing six tenths on the straights," Hamilton told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "It's kind of reminiscent of some of the previous races before Austin, [and the] bouncing is back, which is costing us time." Hamilton also noted the issues they've had with their brakes, which h...

Unloved section of Miami F1 track to be re-modified

Formula 1's Miami Grand Prix track is to undergo major renovation work ahead of the 2023 event. TheFOXposts.Com. A long time ambition of series chiefs, the first ever Grand Prix in Miami was held in May, with a circuit sneaking around the Miami Dolphins' NFL stadium, being won by Max Verstappen. The circuit was criticised for its lack of overtaking potential - although Verstappen did pass Ferrari's Charles Leclerc on-track to grab his third of the campaign. And when F1 returns in May 2023 for the second time, a circuit with a few changes will be awaiting drivers and teams. Formula E Gen3 cars on track for first time as testing begins

Image
The Formula E Gen3 cars have hit the track for the first time as testing gets underway ahead of the 2022/23 season. Just weeks before the debut race of the campaign in Mexico City on 14 January, all 11 teams and 22 drivers have been getting familiar with the new generation of cars on the first of a three-day test in Valencia. The debut session got underway at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo on 13 December, and it was Maserati MSG Racing's Maximilian Guenther who set the fastest time in the morning before going on to again top the timesheets in the afternoon session, with a quickest time overall of 1:26.221. It was a decent showing for the TAG Heuer Porsche squad too. Pascal Wehrlein ended the day in second, while teammate Antonio Felix da Costa claimed third. While Guenther's fellow Maserati driver Edoardo Mortara took P4, reigning World Champion Stoffel Vandoorne – who joins DS Penske for the new season – slotted into fifth. Vandoorne's teammate and fellow champion...

Piastri reveals why his first Albert Park track appearance was 2015

Image
Ahead of his home Formula 1 race debut, Oscar Piastri revealed that his first appearance on the track came back in 2015, when he was a 'grid-kid' for one of the drivers. The McLaren driver, who is making just his third F1 appearance , shared that he had once appeared as an F1 'grid-kid', who acted as mascots to the drivers ahead of races. "The last time I raced in Australia, I was still in go-karts. I think it was seven years ago now. So it's nice to get out on a race track in Oz," Piastri recalled to media. "Yeah, I was here last year as a reserve driver, and I was here, I think, 2015. "I was a grid-kid, actually for Dany Kvyat, so I was holding Dany Kvyat’s flag, and he broke down on the lap-to-grid, so I never actually got to see him! "But yeah, it’s pretty special to have someone holding my flag this time but hopefully I have better luck." Viewed by others: ...

Malaysia Grand Prix track says F1 'too expensive'

Image
The Malaysia Grand Prix says hosting Formula 1 is "very expensive" and doubts that it will return without further investment. The Sepang International Circuit last hosted an F1 race in 2017 but pulled out at the end of that season, despite being contracted until 2018, due to rising hosting fees and a decline in ticket sales. Malaysia Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, says the circuit located in Kuala Lumpur would need further government investment for upgrades. "F1 is very expensive. We had to wait for RM20 million from the government just to upgrade the track," said Yeoh to Malaysian outlet The Vibes . "If we could host an F1 race we would already have done it, but for now, we can't afford to have the races. "For now, we will use the money for urgent fixes." Tsunoda hopes 'big updates' for Imola can get AlphaTauri back on track

Image
Yuki Tsunoda is hoping that "big updates " planned for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will get AlphaTauri back on track , after a disappointing start to the season. The AlphaTauri driver qualified in P17 but managed to recover to P11 in Miami after pulling off moves in the opening stages of the race, notably running side-by-side with Zhou Guanyu at the Turn 14 chicane before using his straight-line speed to get past at Turn 17. "It's kind of a trend of AlphaTauri, sometimes when the qualifying is bad the race is good. So obviously we have to find out why we are good, but it's really pretty surprising," he told media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "It's good that I'm able to definitely extract the performance every race – more than last year." Viewed by others: Analysis AlphaTauri ...

Hulkenberg opens up on 'nasty' Miami track after FP1 crash

Nico Hulkenberg says the Miami International Circuit is "tricky and nasty", after he crashed during FP1. On his first visit to the Miami circuit, the German lost the back end of his Haas at Turn 3 early in the session, slamming backwards into the barriers and causing the first red flag of the weekend. Afterwards, the Haas driver said the paucity of grip afforded by the circuit at that point had contributed to his accident. "A bit unnecessary. Shame that I just wanted a bit too much too soon,” Hulkenberg said of his crash to media, including TheFOXposts.Com . "It was my first time on this track and running wide there at Turn 3 is a little tricky. The crash was luckily not too bad. "It seems like there's one line where the grip is good, and if you go offline a little bit, the grip drops dramatically, and even later in the sessions there's a lot of marbles offline. "It's quite a tricky and nasty track in that sense. Easy to get ...
