Reports: Time running out for Binotto at Ferrari

Mattia Binotto is close to leaving his role as Team Principal of Ferrari, reports in Italy are suggesting.

Several Italian media sources have written that Ferrari are actively looking to remove Binotto from his position, with potential replacements being lined up.

Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Ferrari are looking for a replacement to be installed by 1st January 2023, ahead of the new season.

The same publication also reports that the favoured candidate for the role is current Alfa Romeo Team Principal Frederic Vasseur.

Other options are said to include McLaren's Andreas Seidl and Antonello Coletta, who is the head of Ferrari's efforts in GT Competitions.

A switch of team boss would mark the end of a four-year spell for Binotto in charge of Ferrari, who climbed through the Ferrari ranks to succeed Maurizio Arrivabene in 2019.

The news comes after a turbulent season of unfulfilled potential for Ferrari. Their early season pace yielded early wins, before reliability problems, operational issues and driver errors scuppered their chances of keeping up with Red Bull. who went on to claim the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships.

F1 teams are facing the prospect of racing in the wet at this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix without tyre warmers . In a sustainability push, F1 's official tyre supplier Pirelli are introducing a new full Wet compound for the Imola race that is designed to avoid the use of electric tyre blankets.
