Vettel suggests changes for F1 after leaving the sport

Sebastian Vettel believes that Formula 1 can do more to earn 'credibility' with the general public.

With the sport is aiming to tackle a range of issues in the coming years, such as equality and sustainability, retiring World Champion believes F1 could do more to be 'transparent' with the fans.

Vettel, who retired from Formula 1 at the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi, was asked what changes he would make to the sport.

"I think in general, more transparency, I think the world is opening up," Vettel responded to media, including TheFOXposts.Com, before suggesting that more actions were needed for F1 to meet their own goals.

"F1 should lead [with] some more transparency, more credibility with all the claims and all the things that we are saying [that] we're doing and wanting to do in the future.

"I think we need to prove that we actually doing them as a sport."

Have seen various iterations of Formula 1 cars during his career, Vettel then provided his opinion on what changes should be made to the race cars.

"Then, from a car point of view, I would make the cars a lot lighter. I think it brings a lot of joy," added Vettel.

"By definition, if the cars are lighter [then] we will have less problems with tyres.

"It will be more physical, more exhausting. I think more exciting for driving the cars."

Aston Martin dismiss concerns over impact of break in calendar

Aston Martin boss Mike Krack has dismissed any concerns over the recent four-week gap in the F1 calendar having an impact on the team's momentum. Lewis Hamilton set the pace during Free Practice 1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a session featuring several rookie drivers. Hamilton hit the top of the timesheets with a lap of 1:26.633 on the Soft tyre, while Mercedes teammate George Russell was two tenths of a second back in P2.
