F1 boss urges Ferrari to find a solution after Binotto's resignation

Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali has urged Ferrari to "find a solution" after the resignation of Mattia Binotto as Team Principal.

Binotto resigned on Tuesday after four seasons at the helm having failed to capitalise on the promise of Ferrari's 2022 season with the team making continued operational and strategic mistakes as well as suffering poor reliability.

Although they claimed second in the Constructors', with Charles Leclerc doing similar in the Drivers', this was not enough to save Binotto's job - who will leave the Scuderia after 28 years on December 31st.

And Domenicali - the last Ferrari boss to deliver a championship - the 2008 Constructors' - believes his former concern need to quickly appoint Binotto's successor.

"Of course when you are second in Ferrari, it is something that is not enough," Domenicali explained to Sky Sports F1.

"I was in the same position many years ago, and I want [Binotto] to stay focused and believe in himself.

"I don't want to get into the dynamic of the team, but for sure, I want to wish him the best for the future.

"I really hope that Ferrari will find the right solution to stay on-track and focus as they [have done] a big recovery from where they were two years ago (sixth in the 2020 season).

"We need Ferrari to be comPetitive, to have a good, strong team with strong drivers to fight against the others.

"I am sure there will be more teams fighting for first and other positions [in 2023] - that is the dream.

Aston Martin dismiss concerns over impact of break in calendar

Aston Martin boss Mike Krack has dismissed any concerns over the recent four-week gap in the F1 calendar having an impact on the team's momentum. The squad had a strong start to the 2023 season, with Fernando Alonso claiming three consecutive podium results in the opening races. Lewis Hamilton set the pace during Free Practice 1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a session featuring several rookie drivers. Hamilton hit the top of the timesheets with a lap of 1:26.633 on the Soft tyre, while Mercedes teammate George Russell was two tenths of a second back in P2.
