Verstappen points towards his 'perfect' race from 2022

Max Verstappen has pointed towards what he believes was his most "perfect" race from the 2022 Formula 1 season.

Speaking at the recent FIA Prize Giving Gala, the Dutchman outlined the race where he knew that it would be a special year for the team despite the tough start in Bahrain and Australia.

"I would say the way we bounced back after it was a tough weekend in Australia, to then go to Imola where the weekend we had was just incredible," he said.

"I knew that we had a lot of potential but I also knew we had a lot of ground to catch up on, but the car since then has been producing after being developed in the right way."

Spa victory the most 'perfect' one of the season

Of the record-breaking 15 victories in a season for Verstappen, which race was the standout? "Spa. Just because of the weekend we had, the car on track was working perfectly, I barely touched the car and we were miles ahead of the others."

After taking engine-related penalties he was dropped to 14th on the grid, but he made light work of the field - overtaking 12 cars in the first 12 laps.

The win would be the third in a streak that continued through to the Italian Grand Prix.
