Kevin Magnussen teams up with dad Jan for new challenge

Kevin Magnussen will partner dad Jan for the 2023 Daytona 24 Hours, it has been announced.

The father and son are set to compete in the endurance event with the MDK Motorsports team in a Porsche 911 GT3 R.

While this will mark Magnussen's third appearance in the race – with the Dane having comPeted in the IMSA series in 2021 following his exit from F1 – it will be the first time that he has taken part with Jan.

Magnussen Jnr is set for just the one IMSA race, given that the rest of the year will be spent racing with Haas in F1, while Magnussen Snr has signed to drive for MDK MotorSports on a permanent basis.

Magnussen 'super excited' for opportunity

The Magnussens have previously raced together at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021, and will also comPete in the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi over the weekend of 10-11 December.

Kevin has spoken of his excitement at taking part in the Daytona 24 Hours with his father, and praised Porsche team owner Mark Kvamme for the opportunity.

"I'm super excited about this!" the Dane said.

"The Rolex 24 is legendary, and I have had some fantastic moments there with Chip Ganassi Racing the past two years.

"Being able to do such a race together with my dad is amazing. Again, I cannot thank Mark Kvamme enough for setting this up."

Aston Martin dismiss concerns over impact of break in calendar

Aston Martin boss Mike Krack has dismissed any concerns over the recent four-week gap in the F1 calendar having an impact on the team's momentum. The squad had a strong start to the 2023 season, with Fernando Alonso claiming three consecutive podium results in the opening races. Hamilton leads Russell to top Abu Dhabi FP1 as rookies return to action

Lewis Hamilton set the pace during Free Practice 1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a session featuring several rookie drivers. Hamilton hit the top of the timesheets with a lap of 1:26.633 on the Soft tyre, while Mercedes teammate George Russell was two tenths of a second back in P2. Charles Leclerc claimed third, ahead of Sergio Perez in fourth.
