Mick Schumacher would still have F1 seat 'if father was by his side'

AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost believes that Mick Schumacher would still have his seat in Formula 1 if father Michael was by his side.

Mick lost his seat after lacklustre performances with Haas in his second year with the American team, exiting on poor terms with Team Principal Guenther Steiner.

In 2023 he took up a reserve driver role at Mercedes, which was the final team father Michael raced with before his second retirement in F1.

"He deserves a place in Formula 1. I am of the same opinion as his uncle Ralf: If his father had been by his side, Mick would still be one hundred percent still in Formula 1," said Tost speaking to Sport1.

The Austrian believes Michael's personality alone when dealing with team bosses would have been an advantage for Mick.

"Because of Michael's personality alone, everything would have gone differently. I don't want to criticize Mick's environment, but when a Michael Schumacher talks to a team boss, that's another house number.

"Fortunately, he is now the third driver at Mercedes. He just has to keep working hard and hope that an opportunity arises - and then take advantage of it. I am convinced that he will do the same."

Tost: I would've liked to work with him

Tost says Mick Schumacher would have been a potential option for AlphaTauri, had it not been for his links to the Ferrari Driver Academy.

"It is a pity that he is not there [Haas] in the decisive third year," said Tost.

"I would have liked to work with him, but he was always a Ferrari Academy driver and did not come into focus with us."
