Michael and Ralf Schumacher's home town facing demolition

The home town of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher is set to be demolished - although the famous karting track will be unaffected.

Schumacher and his Grand Prix-winning brother Ralf grew up in Kerpen-Manheim, west of Cologne and near the Belgian and Dutch borders.

The town has fallen into disrepair, with only a handful of residents remaining, and it is now set to be demolished for mining excavations.

Located nearby is the massive Hambach mine, source of Lignite, a form of brown coal used in power generation, but is regarded as one of the most polluting forms.

In the demolition, the famous karting track where Schumacher raced a young Lewis Hamilton in 2001 will survive as will the local church and the house belonging to Schumacher's parents.

Auto Bild report that the first rental apartment that Michael and Corinna Schumacher shared no longer exists.

Bottas takes two-wheeled adventure in Imola replacement race

Valtteri Bottas joined partner Tiffany Cromwell at a cycling race in Scotland after the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The race at Imola was called off early in the week after extensive rainfall led to flooding and landslides in the surrounding region. Alfa Romeo driver Bottas did not take the weekend off for relaxation ahead of the Monaco and Spanish Grands Prix double-header though, instead taking part in the Gralloch Gravel event – part of the UCI Gravel World Series. The Finn excelled to finish 114th out of over 1,000 entrants in the 113km race, though he was outshone by Cromwell, who triumphed in the Women's race. F1 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Qualifying results

Charles Leclerc nabbed pole position for Formula 1 's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and will be joined on the front row by Max Verstappen. Having set the exact same time as Verstappen on the first runs in Q3, Leclerc improved by 0.242s on his second run, as Verstappen could only find 0.188s.
