Ex-F1 champion predicts record Verstappen title haul - 'The sky's the limit!'
1996 F1 World Champion Damon Hill says Max Verstappen can win a record eight World Championship titles.
After snatching the 2021 title on the last lap of the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen retained his crown in much more dominant fashion last year, taking a record 15 wins in a single season.
Having won two of 2023's first three races, and with his Red Bull RB19 appearing to be the class of the field, Verstappen looks well placed to take this season's title as well.
Speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, Hill backed the Dutchman to break F1's record of seven World Championship titles, jointly held by Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
"I'm sure he'll get better. He has shown more maturity in the application of his talents in races," said Hill.
"He knows when to twist and when to stick. There's no need to go flat out everywhere but he's always got something in his back pocket if he needs it.
"The sky is the limit - it could be eight world titles. There's a ruthlessness to it as well.
“Most people find it difficult to relate to that, because in normal life it's regarded as being selfish and unattractive.
"But it's a totally appropriate mindset when competing in a sport where the objective is to win. It's not to do well or play nicely, it's to win. So that is what he has."
