Pirelli go aggressive with Baku and Imola compounds

Pirelli has elected to bring the Soft C5 compound to the upcoming Formula 1 races in Baku and Imola.

It is the first time the tyre maker has brought the C5 in 2023, mainly due to the tight corners at the Baku city circuit and long straights where cars reach up to 340kph.

Pirelli expects thermal degradation to become a factor due to the high asphalt temperature at Azerbaijan.

This is also the case for Imola when F1 is set to trial a new qualifying format with just one compound used in each session.

This "Alternative Tyre Allocation" reduces the total tyre allocation for each car from 13 sets to 11 per weekend.

Pirelli will keep the same C4, C3, and C2 allocation for the Miami Grand Prix used at the Saudi Arabian and Australian Grands Prix.
