The cultural differences Aston Martin expect in Vettel and Alonso

Aston Martin Formula 1 boss Mike Krack believes the cultural differences between Sebastian Vettel and replacement Fernando Alonso will be a "big challenge" in 2023.

Vettel called time on his 16 year F1 career at the end of 2022, having claimed 53 race wins and four world titles, and was replaced by old rival Fernando Alonso who jumped ship from Alpine to partner Lance Stroll.

Between them, Vettel and Alonso have 554 Grand Prix starts and although Krack is confident Alonso will seamlessly fit into the Aston operation, did highlight the differences between German Vettel and Spaniard Alonso.

Krack reveals Aston difference

"[It will be] different," Krack responded when asked by media including TheFOXposts.Com on the prospect of working with Alonso when compared to Vettel.

"They have different backgrounds, one is Latin and the other German and that makes a big difference, but what they have in common is the focus, the focus on improving, the focus on making progress and isolating what makes us progress instead of just being detailed.

"So there are some similarities and some differences."

Aston won't miss what Vettel can bring

"I think it is important for the team that we have drivers who from a technical perspective are able to give good feedback, not positive feedback as that's not always the case," added Krack's technical director, Dan Fallows.

"Good feedback for us is [a driver being] able to describe how they're feeling in the car, and that is very important for us.

"We are very fortunate that Lance is very good in that respect as well.

"I don't think that in Seb leaving, we were missing anything particularly, but we do want to produce a car which is significantly better for next year.

"We want to see that progression and we need to make sure that we have drivers who are able to extract the most out of that.

"Lance is a driver who is able to drive the car, and clearly Fernando has a huge amount of experience and has a proven track record of doing that as well.

"It is a very exciting driver line-up."

Aston Martin dismiss concerns over impact of break in calendar

Aston Martin boss Mike Krack has dismissed any concerns over the recent four-week gap in the F1 calendar having an impact on the team's momentum. The squad had a strong start to the 2023 season, with Fernando Alonso claiming three consecutive podium results in the opening races. Lance Stroll, meanwhile, bounced back from a pre-season cycling accident to finish in the points in Bahrain and Australia, putting the team in P2 of the Constructors' Championship. Hamilton leads Russell to top Abu Dhabi FP1 as rookies return to action

Lewis Hamilton set the pace during Free Practice 1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a session featuring several rookie drivers. Hamilton hit the top of the timesheets with a lap of 1:26.633 on the Soft tyre, while Mercedes teammate George Russell was two tenths of a second back in P2. Charles Leclerc claimed third, ahead of Sergio Perez in fourth.
